This is a mix bag. Stamp Your Feet to me is the best this cd has to offer PLUS an American Idol takeoff . But the first single I'm a Fire did put her in the history books for only artist to have a #1 dance single in each of the past 4 decades. "Be Myself Again" is the first song heard by her new label "Sand On My Feet" ** may place here on adult 40..but hardly a top ten single coming. I am happy tho just to her Donna again..and got concert tickets lol.......So in a nutshell BUY this one SUMMER IS COMING ** did become an A/C top 40 hit
Donna Summer has always felt conflicted about her being typecast (as a talented vocalist of mere "dance music"), about her fame, and about some of her fans. After a seventeen year hiatus, Donna heralds her royal return! In a noble effort to recapture some of her past glory, Dance-Floor Donna sings (with obvious references to her earlier Disco Diva days): "So many years ago on the radio, she crept into ya soul and loved to love ya all...The Queen is Back!" Well, partly. ***** One gets the strong impression that DS has resented her being pigeonholed by fans and the music industry with the "Queen of Disco" moniker, and has persistently tried to peck out of this disco/dance cage with forays into other, more "respectable" musical categories. Yet, despite her tenacity, she has never really attained the popular and financial heights she once knew whenever straying too far from these familiar genres. She crows, "Fame made a fool out of everyone...It's all about who they think you are," and "Let me introduce myself. I'm a woman that you've never seen. You might know me from somewhere else as someone that I've never been." ***** Her Majesty seemingly wants to reclaim her crown while at the same time implying she'd like to abdicate her throne! Our Queen, perhaps, but a reluctant, conflicted Queen. ***** Despite repeated efforts to expand her musical repertoire in the past, these have mostly been fair to failing commercial diversions. (Donnapologists may disagree.) While promising "the Queen is Back!" on *Crayons*, she nevertheless tries the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach again---with mixed results. The album starts off with great fanfare, full of the energy, freshness and passion we have missed, as she tries on varied contemporary dance music styles. However, more than halfway into the album, the excitement peters out, plummeting into generic, lackluster, indistinguishable filler of dance numbers, pop tunes and ballads, unworthy of our Grande Dame. While listening to her convincing impersonation of Tina Turner in Track 9 may be a hoot, her "stretch marks" throughout the CD are most embarrassingly revealed here. ***** So, does she feel unfairly bound to restrict her God-given talent mainly to fan-friendly dance fluff? Rumors also persist about her love/hate/love relationship with a sizable portion of her fan base after finding religion: gay men. The story goes she loves the sinners, hates the sin, loves the sinners' money. After 17 years of mounting bills, is this CD just Donna's most recent attempt of holding her nose while going in for another financial dip at the same well? Heaven Knows. ***** (The Royal) "We" are glad the Queen is back. Unfortunately, her tiara has lost much of its former regal glitter.Read full review
The music on this CD is a far cry from Donna Summer's "Love to Love You Baby," "Bad Girls," and even "Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)" and "This Time I Know It's for Real." She scored hits with the dance oriented tracks "Stomp Your Feet" and "I'm a Fire," The orchestra sounds almost entirely created with a computer music program, but that was par for the course during the period this CD was created. In many tracks, the emphasis seems to be on ego-driven music programming, leaving Donna Summer's extraordinary vocal work buried in the mix. The singer shines most in the few ballads included on the CD because we can actually hear her vocals loud and clear. The overproduction on the other tracks is representative of the kind of popular music that was created in and around 2008. Donna Summer was known for her versatility and for changing her style to keep up with the times. This CD is a good example of that tenacity to remain relevant as an artist.Read full review

What a shock to hear some really upbeat tunes from the Queen of Disco some 20 years later. The tracks have a very good tempo that makes this a great addition to your workout selections or just for good old dancing fun. Good for Donna Summer to hook up with some younger producers and put a fresh spin on her solid voice. Is this a "must have" for you? Probably not but it is worth the money if you are looking for some music that is enjoyable and will make folks at a party try to guess who this artist is.
This is Donna back and in full, dazzling effect! She once again kicks down the doors of artistic repression and makes no apologies for it! Donna has not sounded so joyous, emotive, and inspired on record in a long time! Her recent singles such as "You're So Beautiful", "I Got Your Love", among a few others before this album release prove this. While they are enjoyable, vocally she does not sound as enthuiastic in those recording as she does here. This is an album of Popular songs ranging from Pop/R&B, Pop/Rock, to Reggae, Samba, Vocal House, and Adult Contemporary. Donna does not disappoint with her tour de force vocal performances and well written songs, the majority of which she has had a large part in writing! I am in concurrance with other reviewers that she this is a experimentational album that works. She picked where the criminally overlooked "I'm A Rainbow" album left off. Donna's voice is such a pleasure to listen to because one can hear the enthuiaism and clarity! One of my favourites worth praise is "Bring Down The Reign." It is a wonderfully produced and written that is a song of social commentary. It is powerful without being preachy. Other songs on "Crayons" I enjoy are "Science Of Love", "Driving Down Brazil", "The Queen Is Back", "Slide Over Backwards", the title track "Crayons." The albums' singles, "I'm A Fire", "Stamp Your Feet", "Sand On My Feet" (an Adult Contemporary chart hit peaking at #30), "It's Only Love" (issued as in the U.S. only) and "Fame (The Game)" are among the best on the album. Overall, a thrilling, moving, musical journey! It is one I will not forget! I sincerely hope Donna has more albums in works because it has been far to long that we have not experienced her unique approach to song!!! An A list album worthy of being included in your music collection.Read full review
