I have this same printer now which is 8 years old and still wo...rking. I bought this to replace it when it finally quits. The photo quality is excellent. (Canon says the photos can last over two hundred years if kept in an archival quality photo album.) It has two paper feed trays - one on top & one on the bottom. It has an auto on feature which is rare to find. It has auto duplexing ( for 2 sided printing ). It also has individual ink tanks with 2 black (1 larger than the other). I have three computers and have had many other printers - assorted brands which don't compare to this one. They have all quit working and this one keeps on going. I now have a splitter/sharing switch and print only to this printer. I was surprised to find this Brand New - unopened in the box and bought it immediately. When I started looking I thought the best I would do is find a used or refurbished unit. I quit printing photos after the 1st few years and just store my photos on the computer, since then I have mainly used it for text. Printers can be purchased cheaper than the $300.00 I paid for this, but not with this quality and longevity.

This printer is a gr...eat machine that prints exceptional photos and has advanced features which are easy to use. It has a five (5) color ink system (4 dye-based inks, and black ink) that allows it to produce true-life photos along with laser-quality text. The iP4200 can print a 4" x 6" borderless photo in less than 60 seconds. The great thing I like about this printer is that it has a dual paper path which means you can keep your photo paper stored in one tray and plain paper in another. Then when you're ready to print, you just choose which tray to pull paper from. You can even print on both sides of a paper. It also has the PictBridge feature found on most Canon printers so you can just connect your camera and print without the use of a computer.
I have used thi...s model for many years and this is a backup for the same printer. Excellent job on pictures and regular printing as well. Also it has several separate color in cartridges instead of a multi-color cartridge. Each color is replaced only when it runs out to prevent waste.

This printer has great features for low-vol...ume home printer applications. Canon technical support and software is excellent. My only complaint with this printer and most ink-jet printers is the business model shift to profits from ink. I've owned this printer for 4 months now and I need a new magenta cartridge after printing about 30 4x6" prints (the remaining cartridges are at 40% level). The Canon technical service said one of his colleagues is seeing about 80 4x6" prints per ink set. While I'm seeing less, and I have about 125 pages of text in addition to the prints, the Canon experience translates to about $1 per 4x6" print including paper. Compare this to dye sublimation stand-alone photo printer costs of $0.28 per print! In short: great printer features, good print quality & speed, high operating costs! The low initial cost of the printer is minisicule to its operating cost - each ink refill is $65 (inlcuding rebates and combinational color ink packaging). If you have to buy two refills a year - thats a $130 ANNUAL operating cost - the $100 printer cost doesn't seem that cheap anymore! Pay attention to ink costs when doing your printer purchase research!
This is an ...excellent printer; the newer printers from Canon, while they do use different ink and might have more features, faster printing and a much lower initial selling price, ultimately do not print photographs with any greater detail; the DPI is identical to this much older model. I've never used generic ink with this printer and I've found a tremendous source for incredibly discounted, NAME-BRAND ink so buying ink for this machine, for me, anyway is really not an issue at all; I use DELL branded ink in this printer and it works just as well as Canon OEM ink but at a fraction of the cost. The only thing I don't like about this printer is that it can't print directly onto CDs; that seems to be a great feature of this machine but it's not sold this way in the US which is precisely why I took off a star.
