Warhammer 40K Miniatures

If you're looking for a strategy game that can offer a wide variety of dynamic scenarios as well as deep lore, then Warhammer 40K from Games Workshop might be just the game you're looking for. In Warhammer 40K, the universe has been plunged into chaos and war. Humanity is on its last leg, and it's up to you to choose your faction, prepare your forces for battle, and forge your own path to victory.

What is required to play Warhammer?

Two things are required for playing Warhammer 40K: an army of figures and a field or map on which to engage your enemy. The miniatures require some assembly and painting, while the maps on which you battle your opponents can be constructed out of almost anything. The maps should be designed to provide some cover to each side's troops as well as give clear objectives for each player.

How is Warhammer 40K played?

Once your forces are prepared and you have some terrain on which to wage war, the game involves repeated movement and attack phases. You set up your miniatures as you please within a starting area, and then use rulers and stencils to measure their movements and firing range on your turn. Start each turn by moving your units into firing positions, then measure your shots and roll dice to see how much damage you inflicted.

How many Warhammer 40K miniatures do you need?

Various types of troops are assigned a varying point value. When a game is being set up, both players agree on a total point value for each of their armies, then you construct an army based on that point limitation. Because of this setup, army sizes can vary wildly, but 10 or more is generally a good starting point for small games.

What are the factions of Warhammer?

Games Workshop has created an in-depth lore for the Warhammer universe, set in space and soaked in blood, which features a number of factions.

  • Imperium: The Imperium is the faction associated with the remaining humans in the universe. They are led by a supreme emperor who has tasked a number of genetically-engineered superhumans, called space marines, with being the last guardians of humanity.
  • Chaos: In Warhammer, there is an alternate dimension called the warp, within which horrific abominations reside. Some of the space marines have fallen victim to the seduction of chaos and now serve this evil faction, along with a variety of demons.
  • Xenos: The vastness of space in Warhammer is teeming with life, and almost every one of these life forms is actively trying to wipe out the remaining human colonies. The fiercest warriors of the Xenos come from the Dark Eldars, a hostile group of aliens set on wiping out the human home world.
