No ability to play due to server access
(WIKI) As of July 2014, all official online components of the game have been deactivated following the shutdown of GameSpy. Limited multiplayer is available on other hosting services such as GameRanger. Separate third-party master servers have been created by clans and communities that restore full functionality to the game.

Have a LAN party, this game is fun to play, but it was rushed.
I love the Battlefield franchise, I use to hate it because it made no sense when I first played it on the PS2 back in the early 2000's. Fast forward a few years later and I reluctantly downloaded a demo of Battlefield Bad Company on the PS3 and after months of urging from my friends I played it, I was instantly hooked! After playing a few more games from the franchise on the consoles, I decided to come back to PC gaming and in doing so I found that their were Battlefield games that I have not played. So I ventured into Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142, BF2 is an amazing game and the mods are endless, BF2142 is a good game as well, but I felt they might have rushed it a bit. I felt this might have been intended for an expansion for BF2, but at the last minute they made it a stand alone title. The navigation of the menus are buggy at best, theirs is not a lot of customization or options like BF2 and the home screen were you have to log in before you can play online or offline really kills this title because the servers don't work anymore, thankfully I found a work around for this. My other issue was the fact that you were given sub par maps and only 5 or 6, BF2 had a pretty decent size map selection right off bat. I tried to play online however the servers at Game Spy were discontinued indefinitely which left me disappointed that I couldn't and will never get to try out the famous online Titan mode or ever level up to better weapons and equipment because these features are not available for offline/single player mode. I think EA should have made these features and modes available online and offline as well, if they wanted to separate your achievements then so be it, but it would have given this game more life down the road, such as games like the Call of Duty series. The pros are the single player game plays some what like online, the weapons and vehicles are unique, I heard their are mods for the single player game like custom maps, etc..., but I couldn't get them to work, I'll keep researching. Another cool feature is local play and private servers, so if you have few friends who like to get together and have a LAN party, your golden. This game had a lot of potential, but it needs some polishing up, I only hope that EA does a remake of this game as an expansion using the Frost Bite 3 or 4 engine or adds the features from this game with improvements to Star Wars Battle Front 3. Great Game! Super Multiplayer Fun!
This is a pretty cool game, great for multiplayer and although there is singleplayer you can't do a lot but you can get some practice in. I really like the ranking system with the unlocks and awards it's pretty awesome! On the topic of singleplayer. You can manipulate(if you will) the singeplayer option to change things up a bit. Go to the multiplayer tab select 'Host' choose the Conquest Co-op and you have quite a few more choices than with singleplayer yet there are no other live people you are playing with just computer. Pros:High quality graphics for when it was made. Cool weapons, vehicles and maps. Cons:No campaigns. You can't have two accounts on the same CD key.

Pretty good game, there could be a lot more.
I own all the Battlefield games except for the three expansions for Battlefield 2. I have to admit that the only thing really keeping me coming back to this game is the rank system. If I didn't have 81 pc games, and I had more like.. 10, I'd probably play this a little bit more. Gameplay is pretty good, but it isn't much different from Battlefield 2 in my opinion. The maps are all pretty good, but they're all pretty similar. Everything is very bleak. It's always around 4:30 pm on a winter night. The game (as with all in the Battlefield series) lacks different gametypes (although it does have one more (for a total of 2) than the others). The new game mode Titan is really a lot of fun. If you don't know about it, google "titan video 2142" to find the tutorial video. It combines the usual objective of capturing points on the map but then at the end you get to either attack or defend your "mothership" type of thing. I like in Battlefield 2142 how they combined the 8 or so classes in Battlefield 2 into just 4. It's pretty nice because it just makes each class that much stronger. The unlocks can be pretty cool, especially the defibrillator and APM mines, but other than that, there isn't anything too special. I think it would be fun if they had some unlockable vehicles. Which brings me to those. If this is 2142, I'm still driving a 1999 Toyota Camry. The vehicles aren't that special. The most advanced vehicle is a battle walker, just like the one in star wars. Everything else are helicopters, tanks, or jeeps. No jets either! There's so many possibilities and they really fell through with the vehicles. While it seems from this review that I didn't really like the game, I actually did. I've logged 45 hours in so far and it is enjoyable. I think the Battlefield series overall are just fun. I was just really excited for this one because of all the possibilities, but they didn't really bring anything new to the table. If you've never played the Battlefield series, I'd probably start with this one since it's the best. If you've been playing Battlefield games for a few years now, you should probably just get this game to complete the collection, but you won't find anything new. Read full review

EA finally masters the art of multiplayer. Although this game may seem simply like a future version of Battlefield 2 at first, it is actually a huge leap forward in terms of gameplay, teamplay, and character development. The greatest difference between this and the previous Battlefield games is the unlock system. You have four basic classes: Recon, Engineer, Support, and Assault. Over time, you gain unlocks and ranks in your class, basically turning the game into a rudimentary MMORPG. The second advancement is the new Titan mode. I would describe it as "kinda weird". Your primary objective is to destroy the enemy Titan, a large mobile Star Destroyer- type thing. Your team must use tactics and skill to gain control of command posts, which contain anti-titan missiles. Also, you can choose to infiltrate the enemy Titan to destroy its reactor. Either way, you must rely on your squad and other teammates to overcome the enemy. What I really disliked about this game was how close it was to BF2. The amount of similarities was simply innumerable, from the theme song to the player chat. However, that is the only thing seperating this game from being 5/5. Bottom line: If you're into FPS's or tactical gameplay, or just a really big fan of the Battlefield series (like me), buy this game. If you're deciding between BF2 or BF2142, get 2142. If you're not any of these, don't buy it. Read full review
