The most thorough commentary on Proverbs available is the 2 volume set by Bruce Waltke, which I also own. If you prefer not to spend $72 on those 2 volumes, the best choice in a 1 volume commentary is Tremper Longman's offering in the Baker Commentary on the Old Testament Wisdom and Psalms series. This commentary is quite thorough at 608 pages. Proverbs 31 for example is covered in 15 pages. The layout is clear and easy to read. Each Proverb is explained verse by verse. A helpful appendix includes topical studies of key themes such as anger, friendship, illness, laziness, and pride. My only wish is that this volume was available in hardback rather than paperback.
