Thomas the tank was the main reason why I bought this engine. As a HO engine it was fine but as a Thomas the tank specific toy it is not recommended . The age recommendation on the box was older than eight but this age group is already outside the optimum age for Thomas the Tank.I bought it for a five year old who played with it for a short time and then lost interest . The moving eyes promoted as a special effect were really not easy to see. Decide if you want Thomas the tank or a HO engine. If the former go for the much cheaper plastic battery operated sets

So this was a model Bachmann made for Thomas' 70th anniversary back in 2015 and was one I didn't had my eyes out for a while, but figured getting it after it was taken off the market last year. It's still the same model Bachmann made for years, with the exception of the blue metallic paint and flags on the sides. I quite like the blue color as it makes it feel very special, kinda like how Take-Along did with their range back in the 2000s. The only downside are the flags, as I feel like they kinda ruin the paint job for me. I would've prefer it if the flags were a separate piece onto the engine, but I guess Bachmann didn't want to do this as it would've been either a choking hazard for kids or that the plastic pieces would've broke off easily. Still, it's a decent repaint, but I think I prefer the green repaint Bachmann made last year.Read full review
