For being fairly affordable Gen 2's, I find these goggles to be very functional - especially being compared to a NV scope. NV scopes FoV is like looking through a toilet paper roll that's magnified ... in the dark! Since their magnified, it see's out to the limits of the NV capacity. And, who wants to hold their rifle up the whole entire time scanning an area for targets. I quickly discounted NV scopes for this reason alone. These goggles have a 1.4 mag and I found walking (and driving ATV's) with them feasible and not too confusing. They have a 40 degree FoV that allows you to scan an area much easier and much more comfortably than using a scope. I added an Aimpoint Comp M4 to my AR and can easily shoulder my weapon and get a targeting solution without taking my eye off target. I also added a 3 w IR flashlight w/ pressure switch (ebay). I would be comfortable to say I can engage targets out beyond 200 yds with ease. They also have a built in IR source for managing in spaces with zero light emissions. It's weak but functional. Drawbacks - somewhat heavier than I'd like, Magnification would be better at 1x, CR123 batteries - better buy those in bulk (ebay),Read full review
Pros: - Built like a tank. Cons: - Limited field of view makes it surprisingly difficult to walk around. For this purpose a monocular is better because it lets one eye adjust to darkness and provide some peripheral vision; - Hard to judge distance to objects because both eyes are getting the same picture; - Shallow depth of field. Need to manually adjust focus when distance to object changes; - Uses rather expensive CR123A batteries. AA adapter exists, but wasn't included in my kit; - Chin strap in head mount is fastened with velcro (inconvenient and not very reliable); - Lens cap dangles on a string and often gets in the way; - Expensive for 2 gen.
Great product !i use them driving off road in the pitch black moonless night (vehicle had IR lights )very clear not grainy Good quality I'm very please and i highly recommend this NVG .
This is a very well made piece of equipment. I purchased it so I could monitor my property at night and for hunting. It does very well in both aspects. The description said it can take AA's but it can not without an optional adapter. It doesn't matter because you can always buy rechargeable CR123A's of the internet. All in all good buy
I have owned quite a few and ATN night vision is a joke. ATN GEN-2+ is no better then your common Russian GEN-1 night vision. They copy their names after top quality U.S. made ITT products, like AN PVS-7B, AN PVS-14, and the quality is not even close. So if you want a good quality Night Vision, pay a little extra and stay away from ATN products.
