A fun holiday trip down yesteryear lane!
I bought this DVD because it had the episode in which Rich Little used impersonations while recounting Dickens' classic tale, A Christmas Carol. Turns out, it is short, and nothing like his later HBO one-man version of A Christmas Carol. Never the less, this DVD was fun to watch. It contains holiday skits, comedy, etc., taken from many years of the "Ed Sullivan Show" (originally entitled "Toast of the Town"). Many different celebrity guests are featured. The DVD is edited in such a way that it presents more of a collage, rather than whole presentations. Some of the material was cut short as one guest appearance would transition into another. I wish they hadn't done this, as I would have liked to have seen the entire presentation. This is old TV, no frills, no special effects. The only attractions are the celebrities themselves. I for one, enjoy the old style. It's also fun to see how the sets and scripts changed from one generation to the next. Read full review

A real memory - bubble of our history.
I am of the age that I saw most of these performances the night they appeared on TV. When the camera pans to the audience, it's a real treat to see the clothing worn for each decade (from the 1950's on). So many of the stars were each a treasure in their own right before and after being on Ed's show. Sad to say, while it was fun to see them again, some of the guest spots (mostly comedians)are realy bland. I think they got away with this because they were already popular. There is a huge variety of categories here to keep most everyone content. By far, this DVD is historical for it American social context. A real pleasure.

Disappointed~ Nothing but clips ~ Way Too Short!
I am a huge fan of Christmas shows and I have quite a collection of them. I bought this expecting some great vintage performances. There were a few good ones, but the rest were cut-off. Didn't see much of Ed Sullivan either. There must have been better performances that could've been shown instead. Totally disappointed in how short it was too. So, glad that I didn't pay much for it, or I'd felt really ripped off.

Great "Holiday" Classics from the Ed Sullivan Show !!!
Watching the Ed Sullivan show was the "highlight" of the week for our family in the 1960's. Watching this DVD brings back a lot good memories during Christmas time. Enjoyed hearing all of the popular singers of the day perform these great holiday classics. A fun DVD to watch from a bygone era !

Ed at Christmas
while many of the performances are ho hum some are downright silly, but many are memorable. Not a great compliation DVD but still a good look at how they use to celebrate Christmas.
