Tested working with a couple of issues
(1) Camcorder does not respond to the function keys on the top panel, but it responds to all the keys of the remote. 2) When recording, it will automatically and slowly zoom-in to the max. So you will have to adjust using the zoom key (W-T) on the camcorder body.

The camera takes awesome video and captures quality audio. It plays your old non-digital hi8 tapes. It is great for an individual try to get a nostalgic film feel. I love, and hope to give it to my son for he start recording hi memories.

This is a good buy
I have had this model for over 5 yrs and it performed well. I could never use all of the features. Unfortunately I dropped my unit while on vacation and have been looking to replace it so I can view & transfer my tapes. My unit was repaired a number of times for the same problem, the zoom would activate for no reason while recording, slowly creeping to telephoto. The charger also failed to work recently. I had a problem getting the exact replacement and had to buy a generic charger. The drawback is the battery has to be charged off the unit, therefore you cannot run the unit from an ac adapter.Considering this I would still recommend it because it is simple to use and has useful features.

Sony's best consumer analog Hi8mm
The Sony TRV87 was one of the last consumer grade one chip non digital Hi8mm videocameras. It was also , in my opinion, the best Sony made. I am amazed at the low prices they are getting on ebay. I know everyone has switched to digital for many good reasons, but for the average consumer a good used trv87 would meet all their needs for a fraction of the cost of the latest models. It is quite easy to transfer the old analog tape to a dvd via a cheap dvd recorder. If you are taping important events use the better metal evaporated tape. The number of functions that the camera comes with is more than the average user will ever use . The taping in low light is not great but better than many low and middle end digital cameras out there plus the TRV87 can get 440 lines of resolution which is close to some digital cameras. The batteries also last for hours and the autofocusing and zoom is excellent. an added bonus some users claim the ability to take xray video with certain filters, do a google search for trv87 and xray video to see more info. This model is not as small as the newer cameras but actually the size is quite easy to handhold and shoot. Many users ignore the sound aspect of their viseos, the TRV87 easily allows extra microphones to be hooked up . I filmed two weddings for friends with this model and a shotgun mike and everybody was quite happy with the results, you do not get digital HD quality or even regular 3 chip video results but for a 100 bucks or less it is one of the best videocamera buys on ebay . Go to eopinions.com and look at the old feedback for the camera and think about what you are going to use your camera for. An analog to digital convertor will allow you to upload your analog video to your computer easily. Digital is great but the money you save can buy a lot of fun toys and you can probably get your money back when you are done .Read full review

Awesome product except battery life
The camcorder is excellent but problem is battery with adapter doesn't respond after an hour. I do believe is the plug with adapter is good but howcome on display window doesn't show "mins" to start until full black box meaning it's completed. The mins doesn't start when charger is begun. I need your help to do is battery including adapter with plug to make correct. How long to respond in mins to take process until it will show complete?
