The AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D Lens from Nikon is a very effective standard length lens compatible with both FX and DX format Nikon DSLRs. Weighing only 8.1 oz, it is easy to carry with you. This is an ideal first lens; perfect for full-length portraits, travel photography or any type of available-light shooting.
At just a few ounces, it is extremely light and portable, making it great for outdoor adventures. This lens has two lens elements, which act as an independent focusing mechanism. That means quiet and precise operation, which means you get crisp, clear images with every shot. Easy to operate, this lens is a snap to attach to the front of any compatible camera. Whether you are looking to capture still life images or HD video, this camera lens is a great and affordable option for any hobbyist or budding photographer.
I know every one prefers the AF-S lenses for a variety of reasons (faster focus, quiet focus for video, etc) but his lens is fantastic! The Bokeh is superb and creamy. There is so little glass to move for focusing that the camera's drive motors brings the focus tack sharp almost instantly. It's a heavily built, butter smooth little jewel. It is a very fast lens. I routinely use this lens for indoor and low light events without a flash. The 50 mm lens on my crop sensor D500 acts as a short telephoto for portrait work as well. In truth, this is one of the least expensive, highest quality, and versatile lenses I have ever owned.
This lens is better made than current models and allows full control of aperture and focus. It is great if your camera model has a built in autofocus motor. You can read an entire review on Ken Rockwell's website.
OK, understand, a 1.4 is all about dark environs, good subject separation and likable bokeh. This is as fine a sample of all that as you will find. Sharpness, shmarkness...of course it is plenty sharp! Do YOU use a tripod in clubs and darkish parties? (I think not) so don't compare this to the megabuck Summicron, whose "legendary" qualities you or I will never exploit hand held at a shady party. This lens does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do. It's also plenty sharp at f/5.6-8. Sharpness closed down can be had a lot cheaper in the f/1.8. The f/1.4 has all the sharpness you'd ever need, unless your doing copy work...that's another lens... If you are a Nikon fan, and you aren't clinging to one of their old, all metal bodied manual focus f/1.4 wunderlenses, get one now. This is a great lens!
Match with old model of Nikon camera which it has internal motor for auto focus. Recommend to mount with Nikon APS-c dSLR camera and you can shoot open lens to f/1.4 picture is still sharp.
But it was not good in f/1.4 with full frame camera .
A must-have lens for portraits and low-light situations for full frame and DX cameras. Very sharp imaging even at wide open aperture with great broken. Highly recommend for use as standard lens.
