Works with Linux, plug-and-play, no drivers needed, crystal audio.
You've probably seen the many cheap, simple USB stick sound cards they have out these days. I buy them in batches, use them as a last-ditch audio solution for old computers with blown internal sound cards. But for my music projects I wanted something with better audio quality, so I got this little black beauty. I was a bit concerned that every website kept specifying Windows as a requirement for using this, as I prefer Linux, but I have an old laptop with XP so if push came to shove I could use it. Fortunately this Creative sound card works just like a cheap one - Plug it in, it starts piping sound out from whatever song you're playing automatically. I don't know why they even bothered shipping a driver CD. I haven't installed it yet and don't really plan to. It works in Linux Mint, Crunch Bang, Windows XP, Windows 7, all without installing anything. Either it defaults to class compliant drivers or every OS I have has Soundblaster drivers already installed. If I had to nit-pick, the only fault I can find is it's too thick to use with stacked USB ports. But the USB connection is offset to the bottom of the device, so if you plug it in the top USB port you can still put something else in the bottom one. And it's no thicker than all the cruddy $5 sound card sticks flooding the market these days.Read full review

Excellent general purpose soundcard and great price! Highly recommended.
My on-board sound card quit and I purchased this as a quick fix. It works great! I read the reviews and it had great remarks and they were well-spoken and accurate. It works perfect without the additional software and Windows automatically finds the necessary drivers upon connecting it. This came with a short USB extension cable which is excellent to provide flexibility when using a headset and accidentally pulling the wire too tight. It also allows this somewhat "bulky" USB device to have proper clearance when it is not ideal to plug it into a tight USB slot due to other peripherals being plugged in. For the price and quality, this is hands down a great general-purpose sound card and is much easier than installing a PCI card. I highly recommend it for those needing a replacement solution for a failed on-board sound card!Read full review

they need to produce a product that makes a true sound improvement
you have to download software from creative they want alot of information on you and they want to be attached to your computer to run software. the product works but even with all the supposed adjustments most people will use only a few. it has a gaming improve option. the surround effect could be better the sound quality could be better. more high end which would allow you to hear more separation. their are others one bytecc usb-so7 and encore enmnb-8cm that offer 7.1 optical output as well as adjustability of frequency and surround environment and the quality seems better so much for thx. there is also a much cheaper usb from china with some small physical changes to the usb could also sound better.

my sound is great on home theater from the pc and even better on internet radio broardcast.. i had a x-fi in 2007 but never took the time to use it but this didnt take long and i love it... i might just put one on every pc in the house!

Great product for the price, all rounder USB Sound Card
Bought this because my laptop's sound card an offset on the input jack (stereo not centred). This USB sound card works great, clean sound with many options in the driver software to customize output and input. A wide range of equalizer presets are available.

Increases sound quality times Ten!
I bought this product on the advice of my computer repair guy and it is fantastic! The sound quality when using my laptop through my old Sony receiver via the headphone jack on the laptop was minimal at best. The sound is fantastic using this device. I highly recommend it!
