A Quick Note: Though I’m always being asked questions about projectors from clients and people working within my company, I’m no real expert on projectors. That being said, as an everyday person who also happens to be a heavy user of projectors I’ve learned a few things that you may find helpful as well. Over the years I’ve used many different models of InFocus projectors in my work. Starting with the Huge Clunker (aka) the LP350, moving on to the Much Smaller LP70, then the LP70+, and recently the Still Small but Much Stronger IN35, and now its cousin (or twin) the IN37 as well. Close Cousins or Twins? Very little separates the IN37 vs. the IN35. The IN37 has a brightness level rated at 3000 lumens, whereas the IN35 is only 500 shy with a rating of 2500 lumens. Both projectors are identical in appearance, small size and weight, feature-sets, operation, great DLP technology and the newer BrilliantColor technology. Lumens: Yes, I’ve actually done a Side-by-Side comparison of both projectors. And yes again, I was able to see the difference in the brightness of the IN37 over the IN35. However, had I gone through this comparison process one projector at a time, I would have never noticed any difference in their levels of brightness. Lumens are very important when considering any projector. But with most high-end projectors such as these, 500 lumens either way makes little difference in my opinion. It does however make a difference in how the price tag lights-up. So, is the IN37 with 500 more lumens worth the higher price tag than the IN35? In my opinion and based on my needs the answer is, “No, not at all.” The Color Wheel: I’ll give 500 lumens for your 6 Segment Color Wheel. The number of Color Wheel Segments is important to overall image and color quality. This is especially true if you’re planning on projecting video imagery rather than static presentations. Surprisingly, the IN37 had a 5 Segment Color Wheel, whereas the less expensive IN35 has a Color Wheel with 6 Segments. I’m a visual person who tends to remember variations in shading and depth of colors, more than brightness levels. This may be why I was able to detect slight variations in this area between these two projectors, whether in side-by-side comparisons or not. (But, who knows. This might just be a perception issue involving my perception) Choosing between Cousins or Twins: In considering the IN37 you should remember its similarities with the IN35, but also take a close look at their difference equations. Equation 1. 500 more lumens – one color wheel segment + higher cost = IN37 Equation 2. 500 less lumens + one more color wheel segment + lower cost = IN35 It all comes down to what’s most important and noticeable to you. Is it the brightness level, your color awareness, your intended use for the projector, its operating environment, or is it your pocketbook? The Verdict; As for me, I could have been handed either one of these projectors and been happy. But also for me, upon close comparison I would give up the few extra lumens for the expanded color wheel and opt for the less expensive IN35. Based on all this and the price difference, I give the IN37 an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Again, to get a more holistic view of the IN37 you may want to read my review of the IN35. This unit provides very bright images! The contrast is enough for most people to enjoy videos. Computer images are even better. I you are in the market, this unit from infocus (the original leader in data projectors) will give most people "The best bang for your buck" when looking to buy a reliable video projector. I'm very pleased!
Nice bright images, perfect little projector for the traveling presenter, only weighs 5 lbs. Note: I find find that some of the sub compact projectors currently out there are almost too compact in size, almost toy like, overheating can be an issue if the air can't circulate properly.
This is an excellent projector. Very simple to set-up and use. We selected this one because of the price but also because of the quality we have experienced with other InFocus projectors.
