This Kala 8-string baritone ukulele arrived already set up, and played perfectly right out of the box. I have several ukuleles; this one has quickly become my favorite and has set a high bar for future acquisitions.
The sound is full and clear, without the excess "boomy-ness" of some cheaper (and some not so cheap) baritones. The chorus effect from the paired strings is ethereal. Play it, and you can feel the extraordinary resonance of this cedar an acacia beauty. Easily frets open and barre chords, and picking is pretty good, too, despite the paired strings.
Kala is known for excellent fit & finish and this uke is no exception, from the beautiful gloss finish to the veneered slotted headstock.
Great little uke, much more enjoyable than a 4 string. String action little high but that’s no biggie, I’ll file the nut slots. No additional items with purchase, which is fine, but don’t be expecting a gig bag or pick or anything.
You can buy significantly cheaper ukes, but this one sounds good. Not loud but good.
