Head to head against newer variants it doesn't fair all too well but for a mid-tier dual-core processor in the LGA1156 package, this is a recommended buy. Especially with a 900MHz iGPU core and Intel Turbo Boost 1.0 (up to 3.6GHz). The CPU itself is pretty good albeit with a few cons like, higher TDP of 87W and lower TCASE of 68.8°C. But if two cores are all you need, you can give it enough power AND keep it cool at the same time, you'll be using this for some pretty serious work for quite a long time. The iGPU itself is quite satisfactory but for newer/greater graphics workloads with support for DirectX 10.1 and above, I'd highly recommend this be paired with a similarly mid-tier GPU in which case the CPU would definitely shine with lower thermals and some I/O overhead due to a disabled iGPU core. As an added bonus, this CPU also seems to enjoy some serious overclocking on air up to 3.9GHz without a hitch with the slight possibility of going over 4GHz.Read full review
For a 1st Generation Intel core I5 processor, it's powerful and fast. I installed this baby on a Zotac H55ITX-A-E M/B with 4 GB of A-Data Ram inside my Lian-Li PC-Q08B case and I'm thrilled with this build. No issues during installation and testing what-so-ever. Even though the TDP is listed at 87W, I love the 900MHz integrated Built-In HD Graphic and Media playback which means I really don't need a video card to have fun. So, if you still happen to have an older LGA1156 motherboard around and you don't want to pay the higher cost of an I7 series processor then this CPU is the way to go.
