Worth the money. Unit came in good condition, only had to replace the internal diaphragm which had a tear. Unit works well and only had twice an incident where it did not immediately start. Found that it had a leaf stuck both times. My pool pump has a 11/2 hp motor, which is adequate for this type of cleaner.

Bought this machine to replace an old Kreepy Krauly. It works well, moves around the pool. Had to buy some additional fittings to connect the hose to the skimmer. The adjustable pressure control presses into the skimmer, but came out each night after the pump shut off, no matter how hard it was inserted into the pipe, bought a universal one at Pinch A Penny. There were two angle fittings that were undersized and would not stay in the hose for any length of time.

I decided to go with the Baracuda since I had good luck with this design in the past. It works well cleaning almost every surface in our pool except the sharp corners and bench seats. It collects rocks about pea size and just about all leaves and sand. It will clog the throat with large stones and sticks, but it's very easy to clear obstructions. My only real complaint is it requires some pretty good flow to function properly which isn't a problem with standard pumps, but I use a variable speed pump and running at the lower, more efficient RPM's, it doesn't flow enough water to vacuum properly so I have to crank up the pump. If I was in the market for another cleaner, I would look for one that operates at lower flow requirements.
I purchased the Zodiac Barracuda G3 after much research and advice and am very pleased with my decision. I also considered the Hayward Navigator series but ultimately decided on the G3 due to it having less moving parts (only 1 - the diaphragm) and was significantly less expensive after the $50 rebate. Many pool company reps indicated that the Barracuda series (G2 or G3) are very reliable and recommended them over the G4 and X7. They also recommended the Hayward Navigators due to their ability to maneuver more efficiently around the pool steps, etc., but also admitted to their numerous moving parts and likelihood of ulimately needing costly repairs/rebuilding. The G3 does occasionally get stuck on the steps but not to the point where it is of major concern. You do, however, need to use the suction meter attachment to make sure you've adjusted the suction level properly to level 3. Otherwise, it will either not have enough suction and not climb the walls or have too much suction and stay stuck to certain areas of the pool. You should also make sure to use only just enough hose to reach the far reaches of the pool and no more. When using even 1 section of hose extra, the hose will have the tendency to get tangled or coiled up impeding the G3's ability to navigate around the pool. After 10 years, the old barracuda alpha just wasn't getting the job done anymore and parts are too scarce and expensive. I got a great deal for a barracuda G3. The G3 gets the job done better than the Alpha model did when it was new. Same pool, but it goes higher on the walls, doesn't get stuck anywhere, and operates smooth & quiet. With a little 'help' it cleans the steps too. That leaves very little brushing to finish the job. I've heard a lot about all kinds of pool cleaners, but I only know about the barracuda alpha and G3 models. They don't do everything it takes to keep your pool clean, but they will do most of the work for you. THAT's worth it to me. The barracudas' manufacturer, Zodiac, makes great products. However, Don't Count On That REBATE! In this Zodiac becomes the typical average company that demands all the paperwork be full, complete, and perfect or it will refuse to accept it. Zodiac will NOT let you know of any flaw so you can correct it. Zodiac WILL simply NOT HONOR it's REBATE promise. As I said, typical of businesses today, unfortunately.Read full review
