I purchased this Cat Back setup for my 2006 Charger R/T. I had previously cut the stock center muffler off and run straight pipe back to the original resonators. This sound was good inside the car but sounded a bit odd outside the car. I decided to buy this Magnaflow setup to improve the sound outside the car. a
After installation, i found that the sound outside the car was a deeper performance sound on acceleration. That was good. Now the bad. At start up you could not really here anything. Inside the car driving around, there was silence, unless you floored the gas. Then it was fairley loud. The original setup i had with the center stock muffler removed gave a much better volume level at startup and sound inside the car with normal driving around.
i quickly decided that this just would not do. i turned around and went back to the exhaust shop and had them cut the front magnaflow muffler off and straight pipe it back to the rear mufflers. This was a huge improvement. The car has a noticeable sound at startup and at idle. The car sounds great inside while driving around at normal speeds. It sounds great on acceleration as well. And lastly, the tone of the sound is a huge improvement over the stock resonators.
Anyway, i have looked at several brands of Cat Back setups for the 2006-2010 Charger. It seems that all of them, even the Mopar Performance one, have three or 4 mufflers. I just don't get it. How can so many mufflers make sense to anyone. Let's face it, most if not everyone buys a Cat Back system to improve the sound of the exhaust. The minimal horsepower gains are desired but most people are looking for that great engine sound.
I am old school. I had a 1968 and 1970 Charger. Neither of them had three mufflers. They only had two, and the cars sounded great with two Thrush mufflers. Only the big sleds had more than two mufflers. With three or more mufflers/resonators, the 440 New Yorkers were super quiet. That is not what i was looking for in a Cat Back setup.
The fit and quality of the parts is top notch. The exhaust tips look great. I hated paying for a front muffler and cutting it off 15 minutes after it was put on. But after everything was said and done, my Charger R/T sounds Awesome!!Read full review
