Finally after years of hoping Apple would make something more affordable so I could get back into the Unix world and out comes a Mac Mini. I was a bit concerned about RAM and CPU speeds, but was very pleasantly astonished at how fast and capable these machines are. After having my Windows PC side by side, I am now a totally convert from Windows to MAC. My PC has been completely shut down for about 2 weeks now and I don't miss a thing. In fact, the absence of virus's and malware scanning and on and on.... wow, a new world as these machines Rock. Simplest and more complete example, from the beginning restart with Google and Firefox and Email and Word (for Mac) and Itunes all running at once, a restart that will bring all of those same opened applications back up and ready for use again in less than one minute! Try that on a Windows machine - just isn't going to happen. If you are thinking about it, like I have been for years, the Operating system is awesome and the graphics are stunning. I am a lifelong convert and been using Windows as long as it has been around - yeah, dating myself too. Way to go Apple!Read full review
Purchased the mac mini used. This model is a great value, since it can be upgraded to OSX Lion, which I did immediately upon receipt. The Intel Core 2 Duo is plenty fast. This unit was already upgraded to 4GB of Ram. The specs are a bit deceiving. Apple does not clearly state the 4GB capability, but my unit clearly recognizes the extra ram. I would recommend getting the most ram possible since upgrading this unit is a hassle. If you can find one pre-loaded, its worth the extra scratch. Like a lot of linux types, I switched from UBUNTU. Got tired of everything breaking with every new distro. Lion seems very stable. I have not had any issues. If you already have the monitor, keyboard, etc... hard to go wrong with the mini. I do recommend purchasing the magic mouse or trackpad.
This is a great older computer and cheap to modify I paid $100.00 .I added a SSD and 4gb of ram it is super fast for a total of $$200.00 including a apple wireless magic mouse and apple wireless key board you can not go wrong ! Also it is portable and I used an old vizio 21 inch Tv just laying around house for the monitor awesome .

This is a little gem. It runs great and has nice response times for a 10 year old Duo-core. If you already have a monitor, mouse and a keyboard this is the one to buy. It comes pre-loaded with Snow Leopard. WHo needs an iMac?

Apple of course are awesome - I'm a professional designer so have used Apple for ever. Nothing to complain about EXCEPT... the Lion operating system kinda sucks in some places like has trouble seeing CDs sometimes. Its all a catch 22 with systems. Also the issue of finding a compatible webcam with the older models has proven troublesome... I might have figured it out now but its an issue to consider.
