My Optiplex 755 originally had an Intel Celeron 430 1.8 GHZ and running Windows XP Professional 32-Bit, 2gb of ram, and slow as can be. I put this baby in my computer, maxed it out at 8gb of ram, and I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit on it. This processor added a new life to my Optiplex. For under 20 dollars, you are getting one heck of a CPU.

It's an old CPU, but if you're upgrading an older machine with a dual-core, it's a decent upgrade. Clock speed not as fast as other quad-cores, but this one is much cheaper. It dropped right in to my old Acer and worked great.

The CPU was easy to install. However, my PC had to have the BIOs and Windows drivers updated to work. Beware, my Lenovo M57p was built for Windows Vista and they don't make drivers for Windows Server 2016. There are no unknown devices under Vista but there are 3 unknown PCI devices under Windows Server 2016. Doesn't seem to affect the CPU though. My PC was at 50% CPU utilization with the original Core 2 Duo. It runs at 1 to 2% CPU utilization with the new CPU. Well worth the price!

I originally bought these Q8400s to replace some E6300s in some Optiplex 745 and 755 SFF units. The 745s would not boot with the Q84OOs so I went back to the E6300 (ugh). However, the Optiplex 755 loved them and made those units a respectable desk top again. For a business office that is not heavy into graphic design and/or photo renditions, this is a big dollar saver. The price was low, the install time was 20 minutes or so and voila, a cooking little computer. I have used some ~3ghz dual-core that are pretty quick, but these Q8400s really get a grip when multitasking with web hosted apps, and local apps that depend on each other. And yes, I would recommend them to anyone who wants to ad new life to an otherwise slow machine. Don't forget to bump up the RAM to at least 4 gigs and run Disk Cleanup once a week.Read full review

Very easy to install. BGA instead of pins. Upgraded old Optiplex 330 computers from Core 2 Duo. Have used three, no glitches. Very pleased.

This CPU is a good upgrade for an older computer. I had no trouble removing my old processor and installing this one, though I did have trouble getting the fan/heat-sink reinstalled, next time I will pull the motherboard from the case to have more space to work. WEI benchmark went from 4.8 to 7.3. The processor is working fine more than a week after installation.

Bought a couple of these to replace Core2 Duo processors in some older machines. They went in painlessly and improved performance noticeably. I was careful to clean off the old thermal paste and replace it. Since the Q8400 has a power dissipation of only 95w, CPU temperatures went up a couple of degrees C but still well out of the danger zone. I'd do this again if I had more older machines that needed a boost.

Replaced an e6600 duo core with this quad core. Changed bus speed to 133mhz and increase windows score by 2 points for CPU and 1 point for RAM. No more excessive fan noise trying to cool CPU when running mutiple tasks.

Pros: Cheap Very Efficient A nice cheap upgrade for older computers Easy to obtain Still fast even today Cons: Outperformed by some Core i3 and every Core i5 processors and beyond Old but what do you expect... it's cheap for a reason Other Thoughts: It makes me wonder which was a better processor; Core 2 Quad Q8400 or Phenom II X4 925? The thermals on this chip are much better than on the Phenom II chip lineup... but the Phenom II has Level 3 cache. A bit of a trade off indeed although today it still has it where it count. What I don't understand is that most Core i series chips, getting an actual working motherboard for these chips; one encounters "scalper" prices which is rather unfair in my professional opinion. LGA775 motherboards and processors are inexpensive and getting performance oriented DDR2 800 memory is really easy to obtain. So why is it that much older Core i series chips, you can't find motherboards for while the chips themselves are super cheap. It really defeats the purpose of cheap processors if you can't run them.Read full review

I was looking for an upgrade to my home media server from a core 2 Duo and happened to find this chip. It was a huge upgrade for less than $20. My 1080p transcoding improved quite a bit and I dropped in a 750 Ti and was able to play games like Fallout New vegas with zero issues. If you are looking to put together a budget system for light gaming, PLEX, or a file server this chip will do just fine.
