New Life in 13year old (2007) LGA775 Optiplex 745 that I use only for Automotive diagnostic software. The computer originally had Windows XP 32bit but I had installed Windows 10 64bit Sept.2020 build. The computer was really sluggish with the original dual core 2core/2thread E6300 @ 1.83Ghz. I searched online and found that the Q6600 4core/4thread is the best processor for speed and cost. The processor was used but arrived quickly and was carefully packed. It was easy to install with new thermal paste on the stock intel cooler. When the computer booted I noticed it was much faster @ 2.4Ghz Quad core. The only other upgrades to this otherwise bone stock pc was upgrading the DDR2 800mhz from from 2GB to 7GB and the hard drive from 250GB to 1TB. I can run the software I need to do with word processing in the background as well as internet browsing in multiple windows at the same time with no slow down. It feels as fast as my 2010 1st gen i5 - 760 4core/4thread 2.8Ghz DDR3 1333mhz 8GB but nowhere near my 2018 2nd gen Zen Ryzen 5 2600 6core/12thread 3.6Ghz DDR4 16GB. I highly recommend this processor if you need to get more speed from a old computer that is for the workshop.Read full review

Upon install, the CPU reads an idle temperature of 75 degrees Celsius. I have cleaned installed windows 10 and have no other programs running concurrently. I have purchased brand new thermal grease and have seated the CPU properly. Browsing and surfing the web raises the temperature to nearly 90 degrees. Temperatures are therefore extremely high. Overtime it might do damage to my motherboard. Wouldn't recommend this product.

For very little money, the Quad Core CPU is still quite popular, even in 2012, about 10 years after it first came out in 2007. The upgrade will double your CPU count and it is easy enough to do, (depending on the PC you have). Make sure your CPU fan can handle it, I was lucky as my PC Tower already had a very good upgraded CPU fan / cooler. I was able to do the upgrade myself after watching a YouTube video of someone doing it to their exact same model PC as I own. Just make sure the BIOS is current and updated to handle this before you install it and you can have fun doing your own upgrade. (All the technical information about this once expensive CPU is at ark dot intel). If you bought one, good luck and enjoy the extra CPU Cores!

This chip has a cpu mark of about 2650 and a single thread score of about 920 calculations per cycle. Not at all bad for a an old chip you can get for a really low price. I had the motherboard and a complete system with a dual core chip. It was a no-brainer to upgrade to this one. More than enough power for the typical home user. Chip is about 10 years old - it is NOT the latest or greatest but I have found it to be one of the fastest, most common and most cost effective Quad chip for LGA 775. Great choice for a desktop for you student - plenty of power for Web browsing, research, Word Processing etc.

Excellent solution for outdated PC upgrade. Bought it for Dell Optiplex 745, suites well even without BIOS upgrade, was very easy to install. Cruel Dell doesn't provide CPU compatibility list, but this processor seems to be the maximum. With 8 gb memory runs fast Win7 64-bit and fully meets my expectations. Unfortunately cruel PC manufacturer left only 2 SATA ports on the motherboard so it is difficult to install SSD to accompany my existing HDD. Anyhow this old PC's performance is now up to date. And all for 10$.

I purchased this product knowing that it is well over 10 years old. However, for my grandparents, it is a worthy upgrade for less than $10 compared to their Core 2 Duo E2200. The Q6600 is great if you have a better motherboard to overclock the CPU, but otherwise, if you're motherboard is of the cheaper LGA 775 lineup, go with something like the Q8xxx series as they are faster out of the box. This beauty, while old, can breath new life into those old Pentium 4 / Core 2 Duo machines.

Great upgrade for a old lga 775 socket motherboard to get the speeds up to handle modern computing. This thing overclocks like a beast. I've also used the bsel mod for computers that can't overclock, with the two pins covered, It will overclock it to 3.0GHz with the mod. The mod was done with a Dell Optiplex XE SFF and a hp computer. I can still see this processor being good for quite a few more years.

With a small piece of tape and a solid oem board you can over clock this to run at 3.00 ghz, without an overclocking bios. ive done this on 2 computers with a stable 3.00 ghz. the piece of tape blocks a ground on the cpu and makes it run at a 1333 mhz fsb, cant be done on 1066 fsb mobo, but works well on newer lga 775. just look up bsel mod lga775 for more info, for this price 10/10 would recommend this cpu.

Good ole CPU for a very old HP computer. After installing this CPU instead of original Core Duo CPU and upgrading PC to SSD and 8 Gigs of PC2 667Mhz memory, computer is flying now. CPU doesn't overheat and I didn't do any overclocking. Runs Windows 11(Yes, I installed latest Windows 11 on this PC. You can do that if you do some home work) very smooth and without any hiccups. All in all very good quad core-2 CPU for old PCs. Recommended.

W10 64-Bit capable quad core cpu. Very energy efficient and fast. Even though Speed of 2.4 GHz slower than say a 3.0 GHz and up CPU, it nicely makes up for speed with an 8 M cache that is 4 times the size of other comparible cpus with only a 2M cache.
