CPU arrived beautifully packed and even had more than enough heat transfer paste with it. Not all ACER Aspires are created equal with the nifty little release screw shown on U-tube video. Mine had the old fashioned lever you could not lift high enough to remove CPU. After looking at it a bit, I realized it was plastic and just shock protection. I cut out about 1/4" over the release lever and the rest was history. Had already upgraded computer to W10 and the memory to 4GB. Fired it up, took a bit longer than normal the first time, but immediately recognized it was now dual core 2.6 Gh instead of 1.6 and has functioned beautifully every sense. If you have an ACER Aspire that this will fit and you have the slight thought about keeping it, this CPU is prefer for OEM replacement and even with cutting the plastic took only ten minutes.Read full review

If you have an Emachines with a AMD Athlon 2850e, this is a great replacement. It has made my machine able to process a lot more than it used to. I have been using my computer as a simple midi/audio recording station and when trying to use midi plugin's, it would constantly stall, but now that doesn't happen. I am also able to play a lot of my games without having to turn the graphics all the way down. The shipment was timely and came in very secure packaging.

This is a Dual core processor, this cpu isn't for everyone. It works well to upgrade older E-machines with the compatible socket. In my case I upgraded a 1331. I have had excellent results; faster load times no freezing or stuttering on video playback, faster boot times as well. So if your socket is compatible this is an excellent upgrade. and you will not need a larger heatsink and fan, the stock unit does just fine.

I was looking to upgrade my "Walmart Special" eMachines, and unfortunately you have to be really careful of the wattage when upgrading your graphics card and processor, unless you're also looking to replace the motherboard and power supply. So with a very small budget and quite a number of hours logged researching my options, I managed to score not only a nice graphics card (Radeon HD 5570) but also this processor. As far as value goes, I could have certainly got more powerful hardware for the same or less money. However, when you're trying to upgrade a low-power computer and all that it's compatible with is hardware that has long since been discontinued, you have to make due with what you can get. That said, the X2 5050e is probably the most powerful dual-core 64-bit Athlon that you can get at 45W. Therefore, if you're in a situation like me, this is probably your best bet. If you can swing 65W, you might look into the 5600 "Brisbane". In fact, I was originally looking at a 65W but decided to play it safe considering I would be left unable to return it and get a refund if it didn't work on my machine. It goes without saying, but a dual-core is a HUGE leap up from a single core. If all you have is a single core processor, this will be one of the biggest upgrades you can make. I'm running the processor with a stock heatsink/fan, and I only bought a tube of Arctic Silver. When pushing the processor to it's absolute limit, it's never gone over 60C. In closing, if you're looking for an upgrade for a low-end off-the-shelf PC and have compatibility, performance, and cost in mind, you can't go wrong with the 5050e.Read full review
