In order to tell if this device will work for your ps3, look at the backside of the ps3. Set it down with the top of the system facing upwards so that you can see "Playstation 3" on the top. If the AV, digital, HDMI, and LAN ports are all exactly next to the power switch and power plug, and the serial umber is all the way to the left, and on the backside of the system still, count the number of rows of vents from top to bottom just on the last column of ventilation holes. If there is 3, and the ports are as i described above, this device is for your ps3. However, if you have the newer model of the ps3, your device will not meet that criteria, and this intercooler will end up not being able to attach to your system and will end up blocking all of your ports if you try. I recently purchased an 80 gigabyte Playstation 3, backwards compatible with the Playstation 2. I did my research, and I thought this add on would help with overheating. I was wrong. I actually clean my unit inside and out. It turns out that this product keeps the air ventilation from escaping the unit. While it attempts to cool down the CPU, sadly it only overheats the unit. If anyone reads this, please don't buy this intercooler.

I really love the Nyko Intercooler not only for it's design but for it's performance as well. The five different fan's speed can be controlled via a small silver dial. On the other hand, the housing could be a bit more flushed against the console and for those that don't like to hear extra nosie while playing their PS3 might not find this an attractive buy. Despite those flaws it's worth the buy to help keep your system running a lot cooler and longer. In addition, contrary to form post advising against using such devices for fear of various negative consequences (i.e. violating your manufactuers warranty, destroying your system) the Intercooler does not destroy your system nor will it void your warranty being that it is an external device. Besides, you would never use any aftermarket device on your system, things do BREAK on their own ^_^. As far as Sony is concerned, my system just simply stopped working :) All joking and sarcasm aside, this is a great product that does what it is supposed to do and look good while doing it.Read full review
I was told that the reason that the PS3 has so many problems is due to overheating. I can see why. This intercooler fits perfect and makes it look like it was sold as part of the PS3, not an add-on. You can here the fans run because they are so powerful, but they did not bother me at all. When you put your hand by the big fan on the right side you can feel a tremendous amount of hot air being pumped out. I mean this is really hot air. I can't imagine how hot it would be inside the PS3 if I had not installed the intercooler. Please do yourself a favor and purchase one of these intercoolers. For the price they might save you hundreds of dollars in the future.
