    Wonderful old style safety razor

    Bought a Hoffritz slant bar razor when I was in the service in the early 60's. Loved it and used it daily the whole time I was in the Army. After discharge I retired my old Hoffritz, gave it away and started using an electric shaver. In retirement I've time to treat myself to the luxury & closeness of a blade shave. I tried buying an old Hoffritz off ebay, but the prices the old collectible ones bring aren't realistic for a daily slant bar user. Since Hoffritz Slant Bar razors were made by Merkur, I was able to purchase a brand new slant bar razor for half the cost of a old Hoffritz and once again can enjoy using one of the very best wet shavers in the world. I'm very, very happy with my new old fashioned razor.

    Wonderfully performing product!

    I used to own the Merkur 39C (a.k.a., Sledgehammer) which is the long-handled version of this razor. I loved the performance of the slant but have decided to return to short handled versions of the few razors I have. In my hands, this short handle slant is an absolute pleasure to shave with. Don't be scared off by talk of how 'aggressive' slants are. I've only used the Merkur slants and I don't find them any more aggressive than a standard razor. In fact, IMHO they shave closer and more smoothly than my standard razors (e.g., Merkur 34C and some vintage razors).

    Mild But Efficient Shave

    This is NOT the aggressive razor some say it is: it is a 2.5-3.0 on the scale of 1-5. Almost as mild and my EJ DE-89 but very efficient. I can get 4 plus shaves from each of my Astra Green blades.

    Does the same thing as a j hook stroke,

    Better off learning the j hook and slantstroke, using an old gillette tech or super speed found here lightly used on e bay. This razor does the slant stroke by its nature. I do not know yet if it's actually a good thing or not. It does give a good shave, but so does a tech if you use a slant stroke.
