The quintessential Estes ready to fly beauty. You spend minutes on final assembly and recovery system set up and then you are flight ready. Looks great. An A8-3 will fly it but altitude is so low, 300 feet, that chute deploys at 100 feet after delay. Too risky! B4 or B6 is great for a nice flight. A C6 will get it out of sight except for smoke trail. Used a C6-7 and it fell far enough that we did not have to chase it into the next county. This is a great flyer and the kit is a great starter kit with launcher and motors.

Estes has been marketing sport rocketry kits since I was a boy. Their quality was always first-rate but with the advent of plastic fin units and nose cones, assembly has gotten easier for children. Some of their kits are actually RTF, or "ready-to-fly" meaning no assembly is needed. Assembling a kit is useful for teaching patience and encouraging expression but some children are more patient than others, so...This kit requires some assembly but their easy-to-understand instructions read like a comic book, with arrows and expanded views in bubbles. Everything is explained in proper order; one tip they don't mention is to cut off the end of a Q-tip to use the stick as a dauber to reach glue into small spaces (like inside the body tube.). Take your time planning your painting and learn how to apply newspaper for masking, and remember to use more than one lighter coat of spray paint (as opposed to one heavy coat) to avoid runs and drips which makes for a sloppy look.Read full review

The entire package is exactly as described. The rockets are easy to assemble...did them with my 10 year old Granddaughter...and the launching platform is equally easy to put together. Just had to wait for a calm day for the first launches so we could recover the rockets. I did some research and found that AC Supply Company (they have a web site) has the best pricing around for engines, igniter plugs, and wadding (the things needed to fire the rockets off and get them back in one piece). It's a really fun project and everyone is smiling when these things take off.

Bought this item for a Christmas present for neighbor's little boy. I remember having these rockets when my son was growing up and loved shooting them off. It seems the Estes company has maintained its quality and performance. Looking forward to helping the little boy launch his rockets several times and teaching him about science.

Good Starter kit to get into Model Rockets, The only down side is one rocket has Balsa Wood Fins so it's a little more fragile than the one with plastic fins. The launch controller is OK to start with however I'd replace it with a better unit that runs of D batteries instead of the 9 Volt. The 9 Volt work when the battery is new but looses power quickly. a controller that can be built with a plastic hobby box 2 switches and 4 D batteries will work a lot longer and it give you a nice project to build on the days that you can't fly. Have Fun
