5 year old got this for Christmas. -Cons: He did need some help since he is not a proficient reader and sometimes didn't follow the picture plans. Tiny pieces were tricky for his fingers -Pros: He was able to follow the pictures in the instructions fairly easily and did most of the build on his own. I think this is very age appropriate for his first build and moving on from Duplo. Hours of play so far from this one set, both with his 3 yr old and 7 yr old brothers too.
