So, I should start by saying that I am a huge Buckeyes fan. It's not that this book cannot appeal to someone outside Ohio, but it's not likely to only because of the marketing scheme and the story being centered around the author's time at Youngstown State and Ohio State Universities. The book is what I call "a civilian version" of a manual that Jim Tressel has used throughout his career to mold young minds into not just good football players, but also model citizens. It is filled with life stories, inspiring quotes, and references to football that helped mold Jim Tressel into the man he is today, earning himself the nickname "The Senator" for being that guy that always says the right thing. Tressel's goal is simply to share as much wisdom as possible with his audience. Wisdom that shaped his life and has helped shaped the lives of so many of the student-athletes who have had the honor of playing under Tressel's leadership. He covers a range of topics: From setting goals, to spirituality, from family & friends to complete strangers. The many references to football make it an exciting experience for the avid fan, but maybe not so much for someone who pays no attention. Regardless, it is an easy read, and worth the time of anyone who is willing.Read full review
This book is more about life than about football. It is an example of how we need to act and get along with the person next door, whether that be a teammate, a co-worker or a relative. Football is a game. Sometimes it is a very important game. But still just a game. This book uses football to show that life has more to it than football games. Coach Tressel is someone who is not afraid to share his views on his faith or his concern for his players. We can do well if we can follow this guideline for our own successes. It is a great read and well worth the time. GO BUCKS!!!!!
This book not only involves football but it is a blueprint for success in life. Love him or hate him Tress is the man and knows more than just football. If you like the Buckeyes this is a book for you! If you don't like the Buckeyes then this is still a book for you that you might learn something from. This is a winner's manual and the title is appropriate! Go Bucks! Hopefully we can win a few more titles before Jim Tressel retires and lives up the so called "good life". Not sure what the good life is with respect to coaching one of the premier teams in the nation? Read the book you won't be disappointed!
this is an excellant book i hate to read but i love to read this one. tells you everything you need to know to coach your team better.
Lots of helpful tips, even if you know nothing about football (or a Michigan fan, like I am). This book has lots of great, inspirational quotes that are applicable in just about any arena.
