I am so pleased with this pan. It is my second favorite. I have a 10.5 inch old cast iron frying pan that is my favorite, but only because it has been used for decades. Give me 15 to 20 years and this one will be up there too. They only get better with age! This 12 inch pan was shipped already pre-seasoned; however, I washed it in hot soapy water, dried it well and then re-seasoned it myself. Then I put it to the ultimate test, I fried an egg over medium heat without using any oil, butter or bacon grease (gasp!) and it came out perfect! The egg was easy to flip and did not stick at all. When I was done, I just wiped it out with a clean and dry dishcloth and put it away. Anyway, I have used this pan multiple times and with each use, it just gets better and better. You can't beat good cast iron. The second handle on the pan is a brilliant idea. Makes pouring hot gravy or other foods/liquids out of the skillet super easy, since cast iron is so heavy. This is my third or fourth cast iron piece made by Lodge. The quality is superior. The durability is life long. I know that this will be the last 12 inch skillet purchase that I make. It will certainly outlive me. I would highly recommend your purchasing this skillet. FYI: I have a glass cook top and cast iron works the best. It always heats evenly, it doesn't wobble because the bottom is truly flat and you can fry chicken or even stir fry over medium heat without sticking or burning if well seasoned and as I said above, it only gets better the more your use it. Good-bye non-stick skillets. It is only cast iron for me. Read full review

The Lodge is a good heavy skillet but has a rougher surface than the ones, say, your mother used which were probably a Griswold or a Wagner. The Lodge sits evenly, doesn't rock, which is great. They are quite heavy which can be both good and bad depending on how you feel about hefting a skillet. The Lodge can be amended to become as smooth as a Griswold or a Wagner, i.e., can become completely non-stick when properly seasoned. How does one effect this change? Grinding the surface which isn't as hard as it sounds. You can get a grinding head for your drill and some increasingly fine sandpaper at Home Depot for this purpose. Once you have your surfaces smooth, you season as you would any other cast iron skillet: with oil, in an oven at low temp, a procedure you undertake a few times. There are quite a few videos if you google grinding a cast iron skillet, seasoning a cast iron skillet. So, yes, this is a good skillet but if you're looking for that non-stick surface you can fry eggs on, you need to put in some effort.Read full review

Lodge black iron skillets and cookware are the best. We all want that expensive cookware, and it's great, but it scorches and scratches just too easily! And it costs way too much for comfort! Try Lodge black iron skillets, dutch ovens, etc. You can use them without worry--they don't scratch, scorch, or discolor, and you can use your metal utensils without worry. They are non stick-- much less stick than the expensive stuff. You'll have your black iron for a lifetime and you'll use it all the time!!

I've used it a dozen times already. It keeps getting better. Reasonably priced also. I'll be ordering one for my daughter and sister. It's everything they said and more. Thank you Lodge for making a GREAT product and being honest. I've bought other's and have returned them cause they were just junk. Lodge is great quality. Thank's again .

I wanted a cast iron pan for my wife remembering all the meals my grandmother cooked in them. I also really wanted an American made pan. I got both with this. It comes pre seasoned, but, I have already cooked bacon with it as well as eggs, and my wife was very impressed at how fast everything cooked, the flavor, and the clean up is suoer easy. It is said that cast iron only gets better the more you cook with it. Very very highly recommended!!!!👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

I just finished my kitchen reno and needed a large cast iron skillet for my gas range cooking. I grew up cooking with cast iron pans and they were always a bear to clean. Lodge has designed a pan that truly offers a seasoned skillet that when used properly releases the food with easy cleanup. I have had things stick simply because I didn't allow the pan to heat properly before placing the food in. Even with that, when I washed it I did not scrub. Warm water, soap, and a sponge found it clean as new. I always dry it, add a little oil and salt after cleaning to continue the seasoning process. Lodge works for me.

This skillet is our new go-to cookware! We love it and the quality is clearly excellent. Price was too good to pass up. Non-stick, even heat. Can't think of anything bad about it. Takes a few uses to get the surface well-seasoned, so use a little extra oil or shortening as the instructions suggest. A week later, ours is perfect.

Lodge has been making cast cookware forever and the quality of this pan reflects the quality that used to be associated with the American made label. It is a beautiful made skillet, hefty and will last for generations with a little care. It is seasoned at the factory but I washed it thoroughly and seasoned it as soon as I got i. Then I cooked a nice big roast beef in it. Hated the pan up and seared the meat, put it in the oven to cook. It came out great, you just can not beat the flavor of of cooking with cast iron. I have always used the so called "non-stick" pans but nothing tasted as good as my mom's did in cast iron. Even using her recipe. She even cooked biscuits in a cast iron skillet so I can't wait to try that. I definitely recommend getting one of these. The only drawback is the weight but the results are worth the effort.Read full review

First of all ignore the people that are crying and complaining that food sticks. Learn how to use it.It is not difficult at all. I have been cooking for many years and was always afraid of using an iron skillet. This has been the best investment that I have ever made. I have fried chicken cutlets, I have baked chicken in it, I have tried all kinds of recipes and the food tastes amazing! You need to invest in one. I do not use soap to wash it. I just use water rinse it wipe it clean and that's it. Rub a little oil in it and you're good to go. You can always go online, and you can see their tips, Etc
