My home theater setup is not a technical marvel, but I would consider it a step up from the all-in-one buys you would find at Target or Walmart. After the baby got a little older, I decided to invest in the last missing object - the ".1". I decided on the Sony SA-W2500. I wanted a speaker to complement my current setup, a mix of Yamaha and Bose full range, but not large, speakers. This sub ended up being a perfect fix. There are a lot of complaints that this sub is really boomy and isn't capable of tight bass. I'm not sure of these people's setup, but I don't think this sub is overly boomy. It's sweet spot is from 125Hz and down. I guess it might be the rest of the speakers that makes the overall difference. All of my other speakers are full range and capable of handling a modest amount of bass, but I think the biggest difference maker is the receiver itself. I'm able to set the crossover for the sub channel on my receiver. What this means is that all the bass below the set frequency from any of the speakers is diverted to the sub. Humans cannot distinguish direction with low frequencies - even if it's from behind you. If you don't have this option, the sub itself has a crossover built in, but the low bass from your other speakers will not be ported to it. I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker. Overall, I would recommend this subwoofer to most people wanting a little rumble in their movie viewing or music listening. It would be a wonderful addition to a common household setup. Audiophiles usually know what they want and would probably look elsewhere, but this is really a great buy for the money. Don't overlook it.Read full review
Sub woofer has great sound. Is in excellent condition, looks brand nèw. The auto power feature is not the best, but you can bypass it if you want. I am using it with a sony receiver so it has subwoofer settings on it. It replaced a old sub which died. Speaker is highly recommended. For sound and price. Good value!!!!

Plenty of depth and volume. Sounds great for videos, okay for music. Auto on/off function is crappy. I have a pair of polk subwoofers with this function that works much better. Do not recommend using that function with this sony. Therefore four stars instead of five. Just leave it in the on position. I recommend this sony subwoofer for casual music listening and for an inexpensive home theater. I have sony ssf6000 speakers for fronts, ssc5000 for center channel, and ssb1000s for rears in a secondary home theater room. Good for the price.
This actually the second Sony SA-SW2500 for my Home Theater system. This subwoofer is an all around performer it does music and movies very well. This speaker performs above its price. I have a medium size room and this subwoofer fills it nicely.

Tim Bolger @ Good As New Electronics, Tim, I just wanted to let ya know my second sub arrived a couple days ago, and I have my new 7.2 surround system up & going. It consists of 2 of your Sony SA-W2500 Performance Line 100 Watt Subwoofers, and 8 of your Sony SS-B1000 120 Watt Shelf Speakers (2 joined as center channel, and 1each as left & right fronts, left & right sides, and left & right rears). Bein' powered by an Onkyo TX-NR727 3D THX Reciever (w/ built-in WiFi & Bluetooth); along with a Sony BDP-S7200 Blue-Ray player (w/ built-in WiFi & Bluetooth); an Onkyo DXC390 6-disc carousel cd player; and my ol' mint-condition Pioneer CT-W604RS dual auto-reverse/record cassette deck for those few hundred compilation tapes that I recorded on good metal tapes back in the day. And my 73" Mitsubishi DLP 3D HDTV. It all sounds great together. My old Pioneer spkrs in the pics (still in mint condition & sounding awesome, and will go back into my room) are just stands for the fronts right now, and not hooked up. THANK YOU TIM BOLGER & everybody else at Next To New Electronics for great product & great prices, and awesome communication & effort. I truly appreciate that. Take care man, Terry StewartRead full review
Purchased this Sony Powered Sub-Woofer because I needed on for my Surround Sound System. The Sony Sub-Woofer I had wasn't Powered and wouldn't work with my Sony Receiver, the Surround Sound Speakers all worked fine, just not the Sub-Woofer. Anyway, this Sub-Woofer has added a bit more bass to my Surround Sound. Had to turn it down some in the setting for my Receiver (either that or replace some drywall)!

I thought it got here on time and I responded by using the easy set up. It fit into a small space and it made the room look good. I have two of them know and they are both installed on my Sony entertainment center. It gave my other speakers bass using the multi-speaker button.

This subwoofer does not dig deep for movies, nor is it tight and accurate for music. It will fill in the lack of bass in cheap speakers of similar quality (think small, plastic Sony, for example). I owned one of these subs for a few years and used it in a bedroom before I upgraded. At its low price point, this sub does occupy a legitmate place in the market -- just not for audiophiles who are looking for a good subwoofer.

These are highly sought after still. Though they're no longer made. The word is out. Of all the plastic backed powered consumer grade subs, this was their best. Sells used for under $100, sounds JUST as good as my 15" JBL 220 watt powered sub. Almost. Very close. The JBL cost $660 new. $180 used. Got the Sony for $45. Just : WOW! At the end of the day, all one can say is... GREAT BANG FOR THE BUCK!

Excellent sound! Not sure if the lowpass does much (I have it set at 200hz, which passes slightly more than in the middle), but it sounds great paired with my Dayton B652 Airs. It's a desktop system, and this sub is overkill for this application, so I have it turned up about 1/8 of the way up, which seems to be the sweet spot to enjoy my music at my computer. I love the standby, I don't have to reach under and unplug it every time I'm not at my desk. I got a crazy good deal for it, so I couldn't be happier, but I would pay full price for this. It would fill a good sized living room easily, just don't let your kids play crap music through it and it should last a long time.
