Colemen always has quality products. The part is a little hard to install but the lantern is an older style. The newer lanterns work differently. The fact this part is available is a testament to the quality of Colemen products. I used this style of lantern over fifty years ago. My lantern is over 30 years old but it will last much longer if I continue to take care of it. All the parts like the generator to the mantles and mantles are still available. I bought an extra generator a long time ago but haven't needed it. I have an extra set of mantles I haven't needed. I don't have a bad thing to say about it.

I tried Several times to get it to work, even tore the lantern down All the way to the valve on top of the tank....Nothing was plugged, but I took a very small wire and used my air compressor to blow through the lines going to the mantles, and reassembled it all, and it Still will Not pressure up !! The package was old, but had Never been opened, so in essence it was New, But will Not build any pressure, and my Lantern Still don't work

The original pump removed from the stove tank used a leather cup to form the seal. This replacement part uses a rubber/synthetic cup. Time will tell if this new one holds up as well as the original. Since the new pump kits come assembled for the newer style of retainer, there is some work required to disassemble, remove the plastic retainer, and reassemble with the spring and metal retainer but all required parts are included so it works quite well. The toughest part is getting the retaining clip holding the cup on off as it is a press on piece that snaps in place when pressed onto the shaft and is a bugger to get off. Some care is required to avoid damaging the rubber cup or it's plastic support piece. The new clip supplied does go on quite easily and securely when done.

Installed easily after switching to the metal cap type top. I made sure to coat the cup with household oil and a little more after all was assembled. Brought the pump on my 288A lantern back to like new.

If you have a Coleman product that takes these parts, this is good to have on hand. Genuine Coleman, is always good.

At first install, it didn't seem to work, HUH, WHAT???? OK, so for the conclusion....... IT WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD !!! You see, the trick is that you install it making sure you use the right oil to seal it, but it will not work immediately until the oil has a change to coat the entire sleeve/tube and soak into the rubber seal a bit. Came back to it about two hours later and started pumping and there was no friction hardly at all, felt like new. Enjoy !!! Again, make sure you use the right oil !!
