After trying numerous bypass options I decided to replace this part to see what it would do. I have a 1999 Escalade (Luxury) which has some items that are different from the base models and locating the part was time consuming. Finally located the part below the Radio. After spending hours trying to get the part disconnected I decided to cut an access hole in the plastic that would be covered up by the lower final plastic part. If you do this be sure to move any wiring behind that might be damaged during the process and start with 4 small hole saws so as not to have potential sharp corners that might split and take it slow and easy. This works great on my model not sure about others, could have saved me many hours.
