Great sound! Definitely outshines my high end hd-dvd player on cd sound. I don't know what an audiophile would say, but in my system I have been reaching for cd's that have been on the shelf for a while. The sound engulfs my room with clarity I have never heard before, and definition that makes you feel you are listening to a live musical performance. Was looking at Marantz because they have the reputation of building great sounding players without breaking your bank account. Goood deal and great sound. It is everything the I needed for a second system so I won't have to listen to mp3 music files while on the computer. About the only thing i can use to remove the one star from a five is that it is a used unit with a nick here and there and an uncertain longevity for use w/o any warranty.

The Marantz CD-5001 is a true delight! Nice crisp lows and accurate (not too sharp) highs! I would recommend this unit to anyone who loves GREAT sound!
