This is my second Pfaff sewing machine. I use them both for general sewing and quilting. I had the man who services my machines (I have 9 machines including a long-arm quilter and a Consew upholstering machine) look at this machine after I purchased it. He said this Pfaff was built between 1952 and 1962. He said it was in great shape and did not need anything done to it at this time. It sews better than my newer machines. I regularly sew through 3 layers when quilting, and this Pfaff sews smoothly without skipping. The only thing that I found wrong is that the foot pedal sticks on occasion (not often). I told this to the man who works on my machine who said it would be an easy fix if it gets worse. This is a heavy duty mechanical dual feed sewing machine that can sew through 6-7 layers of denim. The 1222e model is balanced better on the crank than a 1222 so it sews smoother and since they update the machines every year just like everything else they are quieter also. This is in my opinion the best ever made home sewing machine. I have also owned several Bernina 830 record models but I still prefer this the Pfaff 1222e over all the rest. I sold my Bernina,s and only own several Pfaff 1222e/1222se models.if properly oiled with the correct oil and adjusted they can still have the original camstack gear in them and run like new. This is the BMW of sewing machines a fine German enginerered sewing machine smooth quiet and powerful.Why would anyone want a piece of plastic this is real metal, steel and aluminum body. 1983 was the last model a 1222se then came the 1229. The 1222/1222e are still very popular today and you can get the gears and other parts but a motor or circuit board must come from a donor or be repaired.Read full review
