This is my very first NAS and I have nothing to compare with - the setup was as easy as described: just plug and go!, so it's has a 5 stars for it. From speed perspective my expectations was high - like from external driver: it is fast enough to backups, but not for consuming big files like videos. Drobo has slow and powerless CPU for encoding - nobody is perfect ;) I'd expect improvements after adding mSATA SSD for cashing, still didn't bough. In overall, very good enclosure for home or small business NAS, has many applications in "app store" - one button installation

Don't trust your data to a drobo! The drobo forums are full of people looking for ways to recover their data when these things die. They are not well made, and if you suffer the red light of death as I and many others have, there are few options. The data structures are proprietary and support worthless, it's just not worth owning a drobo. Check the forums or reddit people are bailing on drobo in droves. I'd leave you a list of links to the many forums that have become support groups for drobo owners but that would violate ebay policy.
