A short survival adventure. I recommend this book to parents who want to bond with their children by doing outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, or scouts. The target audience is aged 10-14. It's the first book in a part of a series - not to worry, it doesn't end without a resolution to only set up a sequel. It has a definitive ending. The story is solid. I give it 4/5 just because I am a stickler. I thought the story was disjointed or passages could've been edited differently. Nonetheless, the book was a fun read. I highly recommend putting it on the list.

The story is about a thirteen year boy that is stranded in the Canadian forest alone with only a hatchet and how he survives on his own, It was a Newbery winner, and appeals to a wide range of students, specifically boys. My 5th grade students loved it.
