Had I know that the Refrigerator I purchased need a special water filter that is just like other filters but has a little chip taped to its side, I would have left it on the sales floor.., GE ought to be ashamed of itself for making things more expensive than they ought to be! Expensive.Not sure we really need it, but after Flint etc, who knows.
Got to have the filter for ice and water to be dispensed. Pretty expensive. Had trouble installing this one at first but figured it out. Make sure the filter is pulled all the way over to release position before pulling old one out of housing. We have decent water here (we think) so don't feel we really need it but I guess we will keep using these for now.

Very expensive.
The filters work well, but they are very extensive and GE forces you to replace it every 6 months regardless of how much water is used because their refrigerators have RFID reader. After 6 months the replace filter indicator goes on and the only way to get it off is to replace the filter with I Ginuwine GE filter has the RFID chip in it. What a racket.

Genuine GE Filter
If you have a refrigerator that requires this filter then you already know that these are tagged with a RFID and that's the reason you cannot find cheaper 3rd party filters. Still, $38 for one filter isn't all that bad. I've seen the price as high as $60, so I was more than happy to grab this one while I could. I'm happy to report that this is a genuine GE filter and that it works perfectly with our fridge. This filter in particular is one of the easiest to install and remove that I've ever run across. Most filters require you to twist left or right with the strength of Hercules to get them out. Not this one! Super easy to install, works well, and provides clean water. What more could you ask for?

Works if you know how to use the CHIP.
Worth the money once you know how to rig the water filters chip. GE is getting tricky on what filters their fridges accept it’s silly. But luckily if you are handy you can bypass this annoying feature. These are excellent filters for such a great price! Locally just ONE filter with the chip costs around $135. Which is ridiculous. If you are reading this, learn how to bypass the filter. Use the chip from the bypass filter plug and use these filters it’ll work great. Use YouTube and google to make it work.

As far as Water Filters go.... this is a good one. I truly believe the filter can last longer than 6 Months but the Marketing Ploy established by GE has the battery/chip life of 6 Months creating the necessity to replace every 6 Months to the day. Other than the exploitation from GE, it is a great filter and I recommend it.
