As with all things from Cold Steel this is a solid item. Not overly heavy, but it also doesn't feel like a toy. You MUST put a 1" rubber cap on the end if you intend on being inside with it. Tile, vinyl, and wood floors will be the death of you if you try to use this to walk with and haven't installed a 1" rubber cap on the tip. (I found mine in the furniture footing section at Wal-mart with the "coasters" that go under furniture to protect your carpet or hardwood flooring.) I'm 6'1" and it's too long for me to use as a cane in the recommended manner - but that's not really what it's for. I bought it for my Mother-in-Law who is about 5'5" and she will use it mostly to walk to the end of her driveway and retrieve the mail. She had been having problems with stray dogs and just wanted something she could keep between her and the dogs. Certainly, if needed, this would make an excellent baseball bat type defensive weapon without looking like you're carrying around a baseball bat! Good stuff at a reasonable price and the place I got it from shipped it quickly. Can't ask fro much more than that!Read full review

I never would have bought it if Id have seen it in person. The ball is ridiculously large, about the size of a baseball. My wife looks like shes going hunting for brontosaurus with this thing. She took it walking in suburbia one time. Its more of a weapon than a stick. Its a bat really. Not the thing to go for a leisurely stroll with. Your neighbors will thing you are looking for the dog that mauled yours. If I walked around remote woods I might take it to fight off wild pigs and crack heads. Otherwise you just look weird carrying it.

Very sturdy and reliable. I added Cane Tips (7/8 Inch, Black) to make the bottom even less slippery. It's just the perfect walking, hiking stick for the rugged Sierra Nevada and more at a great price.

This is a good item and the price was excellent. I have hip surgery coming up. I don't like a cane with a hooked handle. It was too long for me so I cut 3" off the end and sanded the cut corners to make it perfect. A 1" cane tip fits right on it. It'll last a lifetime.

Well made and very stout. Too heavy for use as an actual walking stick Fine for a defensive weapon against dogs or people, but very heavy. It's almost like carrying a baseball bat. I would like it much better if it were about 1/3 lighter.

Just a bit short for what I would call a walking stick. Just a bit tall for what I would call a walking cane. The pommel is too large for a secure grip. However, this walking stick is just about the right length and weight to be utilized as an effective impact device. I'm 5'10" tall if that helps. It takes a 1" rubber cap at the bottom. I walk with an unstable gait and IMO makes me a potential target. If this walking stick helps serve as deterrent, then why not use it?

Great cane and weighted well as a defensive tool. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for something that can assist with a walk and pack a wallop if necessary,.

I measured with my arm and, hand to my hips as 36" to the floor, so I was glad to have the walkabout stick measure 38.5" and, it works very nice and comfortable. I walked on carpet and linoleum floor, since I already had a rubber tip for canes which, gives a more secure grip on linoleum floors, that kept myself from slipping, and, the price of the walkabout stick was the same as a wood cane which, I ordered thinking that I wanted a really tall cane, then it turned out I needed my arm to completely hang straight while walking with a cane, that makes the feel and, support of the walkabout a good choice.

So I’m pushing sixty and one day if I’m lucky I’ll need a cane. My wife and I walk around our town now. It’s nice to have a stick to fend off unwanted beings (mostly dogs). I could use this good quality and good looking walking stick in the city as well to fend of other (dogs) if necessary and not look like I’m inviting trouble. When the time comes in the future that I require a cane I know this will still be around and functional. I did add a 7/8 black rubber tip for slick surfaces. Great item.

Heavy enough to be useful. Light enough to be carried along. Top is a little off. Plan on modifying it a bit.
