One of Peter Jackson's early films (he's the guy who brought Middle Earth to life in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and did a superb retelling of 1932's masterpeice "King Kong"). This is an average quality light hearted ghost film starring Michael J. Fox as a "Ghost Whisperer" style con man. The film is kind of a cross between "ghost Whisperer" and "Ghostbusters". Supporting actor John Astin (Gomez on TV's "The Addams Family") steals the show, however, as the ghost of an avenging judge who help's Fox's character run his con. The deal is: Astin and his cohorts "haunt" houses until Fox's character banishes them-for a fee. Some good laughs, but the sinsiter black spirit that is the plot of the show may be a little too frightening for the youngsters.
The Frighteners, a classic DVD, with extra features, in this collectors edition is an important movie in film history. Without The Frighteners, The Lord of the Rings movies, wouldn't have been made at all. The director had to purchase 35 expensive special effects computers to make the movie, The Frighteners. To recoupe the expense of the computers, he wondered what other movie he could make to use these special effect computers, and the answer to that question, since they were in New Zealand, was The Lord of the Rings. So it can be said, without The Frighteners, The Lord of the Rings would never have been filmed which would be a great loss to film history. This collector's edition has two sides, side A which is the movie, and side B which is the commentaries, deleted scenes, special effects, etc. Side B is my favorite side. There are at least two hours worth of extra features that is never scene on TV. This DVD was worth every cent spent on it,and belongs in every DVD collection. My favorite scene in the movie is Jake Busey, pointing to a rack of knives and saying, "Oh, Patricia!" with that manic look on his face. This sends everyone into a gale of laughter. In my opinion the special effects of this movie has never been equaled anywhere, and shows Michael J. Fox at his best.Read full review
I really liked this film for many reasons, first and foremost Micheal J. Fox. This was the type of role that Fox would excel in his prime. I really loved the supporting cast in this, particularly John Astin and chi Mcbride as Ghost who help Micheal J. fox as Ghoists. There are plenty of laughs and chills in this ghostly thriller. Jake busy is really good as the villianous Ghost adding to his serial killer count long after his death. The real scene stealer of this film is Jeffery combs as a FBI Agent who has spent too much time dealing with Occult matters. This is film that did not do big box office but should have.
Nice entertaining movie with both comedy and horror!

i bought this title primarily because it was in HD-DVD format and i'm trying to build an HD-DVD library while i can still get them. i know that's weird but i still want them. as for the frighteners--good old scary/funny move with good old Michael J. Fox:-)) i don't know why it got an "R" rating--i wouldn't hesitae to show it to my fanily.
The movie is comes in clear because of the high definition and the sound is perfect. The movie has added scenes that tells the story better and makes sense out of it.
The frighteners is one of my all-time favorite movies. Michael J. Fox is at his sexiest and the laughs are delivered equally with the horror. The storyline is brilliant and the special effects are totaly spectacular.
GREAT MOVIE..Funny movie, Micheal J. Fox is perfect for his role in the movie, If you like to watch about ghosts, and need a good laugh just watch this movie... Can't wait to add to my collection...
THE MOVIE IS JUST WHAT MY SON WANTED. HE LOVED IT. IT DONT COME AS FAST AS SOME OF MY EBAY BUYS BUT THAT IS OK. KIDS DONT UNDERSTAND SOMETIMES WHY THINGS TAKE LONGER THAN OTHERS.
Du grand Peter Jackson !! Mickael J. Fox dans un grand role. Quelques notes humoristiques ici et là dans un film de fantomes simplement immanquable.
