These are double sided DVDs. Problem is one side plays fine the other side plays so far and then stops. You get to watch about three-quarter of the show then it stops. Nothing you can do to get the disc to skip over and continue on. Not sure if its the disc that's the problem or if the movie being recorded was was the problem. But anyhow you get only half of the movies. The movies that I watch are fine movies of Bob Hope. Disappointed with this set. Some of the movies that don't play are the ones I was most interested in.

For twelve bucks, you get a lot of Hope in this bargain-priced 5 DVD set. You also get no-frills packaging (no production notes, no plot synopses, no info at all except the year the film was made). Likewise with photos - there simply aren't any. There's not even one screen capture to represent each film in the collection. Squeezing 10 movies onto 5 DVDs results in these films being presented in that slightly annoying 2-sided disc format, where the film title is displayed in EENY teeny type around the innermost surface of the disc. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the reproduction quality of the films themselves. They're not from new prints, nor have they been digitally enhanced or cleaned up; the quality is similar to that you encountered had you seen these broadcast on the Late Late Show. The images are clear and crisp, the films have been transferred well - but there is the occasional scratch and image blurp. None of which bothered me at all. The packaging is user-friendly, meaning you don't have to manhandle the discs just to get them out, nor do they fall out with just the slightest bit of encouragement. Some of the titles in this collection are unavailable anywhere else that I've found, so I was very happy to have stumbled across it. If, like me, you've wanted to see "The Lemon Drop Kid" for ages, now's your chance. For twelve bucks, it's hard to go wrong.Read full review
I would have given this DVD set an excellent rating if it were not for the poorly-conceived packaging. They are difficult to remove from the case, and the way they are stacked makes them vulnerable to scratching. Once I extracted them from the case (not without some damage, which occurred simply by opening the case), I decided not to store them in the original packaging. The movies themselves are wonderful - some I have never even heard of before.

This is vintage Bob Hope at his best with high quality enhancements. It is a sampling of his different eras. If you like Bob Hope you will love this. You just can't get this brand of clean belly laugh comedy like this any more. Highly recomended.
