Sonic the Hedgehog 2 follows in the same speedy footsteps as its well-regarded predecessor, Sonic the Hedgehog. Once again, players run, jump, and spin the blue hedgehog through a bizarre world of metal robots created by Dr. Robotnik, avoiding obstacles, trouncing enemies, and collecting rings and the elusive Chaos Emeralds (earning all seven emeralds turns Sonic into Super Sonic). While the basic action remains essentially the same, the levels are longer, the colors are brighter and more varied, all the zones are new, and the game introduces a new character: Tails the fox. In the standard game, Tails simply follows along, helping collect rings and defeating the occasional enemy, but he is a playable character in the special two-player split-screen race mode. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also introduces a new move (the Spin Dash) and a new special stage: a challenging, pseudo-3D race through tubes to collect rings.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Sega Genesis/Mega Drive 16-Bit
This is one part of the worlds most famous series of videogames - "Sonic The Hedgehog". It is the most discussed title of the whole series ever. In this part, Miles "Tails" Prower, a small yelowish fox appears in the game for the first time, as a companion of Sonic. Also a new move - the "Super sonic spin dash" [performed by pressing Down+A(B or C) on the joypad] was added to Sonic's moves. In my opinion, this isn't the best of the whole series (the "Sonic and Knuckles" is), but in the time when it got out, it was a breakthrough. This game is a "Must have" for anybody who loves Sonic, super speed gameplay or simply want to find out, who or what Sonic is.
This is a list of Sonic games for 16-Bit game system "Sega Genesis"(USA) / "Sega Mega Drive"(EUR):
Sonic the Hedgehog *
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 *
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 *
Sonic and Knuckles *
Sonic Spinball
Sonic 3D Blast USA (EUR - Sonic 3D Flickies' island)
Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Sonic and Crackers (Sonic Stadium) - unreleased
* these games are the four parts of the "true" Sonic series. All other Sonic games were of different gameplay.
When you want to enjoy Sonic the way it meant to be, play this game on the real 16-bit console, not in emulators on PC or in compilation discs for Playstation (or other nextgen consoles). It is REALY WORTH IT!!!
Thanks for reading!

A must-have for any old-school Genesis/Mega Drive owners
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a terrific example of what a video game sequel should be.
Sonic 2 takes a successful formula executed so well in 1991's original "Sonic the Hedgehog" for the Sega Genesis, and expands on the concept with improved gameplay, dazzling graphics, superb music and bigger, better levels that raised the bar for future platformer games in the 1990's.
While 1994's "Sonic the Hedgehog 3" again took the franchise to a whole new level, there are very few faults in Sonic 2. The game does lack a save system and gamers may encounter an occasional glitch, but this was the norm for most cartridge games released at the time. But even then, the positives overwhelmingly outweigh the negatives and there aren't any glaring problems that would discourage gamers.
Sonic 2 also enjoys substantially improved replay value over the original 1991 game with the introduction of Sonic's sidekick Tails, as well as Sonic's quest for the chaos emeralds now offering gamers the chance to play as "Super Sonic." Sonic 2 also boasts a split-screen two player mode where gamers can race through levels against their friends
Overall, this is one of the best games ever released on the Sega Genesis and one of my favorite video games of all time. Old-school Sega gamers, and even ardent Nintendo fans still holding out after the console wars, owe it to themselves to give this one a try.Read full review
sonic the hedghog 2 is a good follow up to the origional. this game features a new character helping sonic fight the evil dr.robotnick. the plot and gameplay are similar to the origional but i must say a flaw in the game keeps me from playing it. every time you jump, tales jumps too. seems like no big deal but you get the jumping noise twice every time instead of just once. this can get annoying after playing a couple of levels.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is almost the same as the original Sonic the Hedgehog except a new character, Tails, is there to help you for double the fun!!!! It doesn’t have good replay value, but it’s worth it for the money. I give it a 5 out of 5!!!
My Rating Scale:
1- This is an absolutely horrible game!!! No one should ever purchase this game no matter how tempting the game box looks.
2- This game is not horrible but needs work and has serious design flaws. Not recommended for purchase.
3- This game is your average game. The graphics aren’t anything to be shocked about and expect a bad storyline and very little replay value. Purchase at your own risk!!!
4- This is an above average game and has good replay value and graphics are above average. It still may have design flaws, but they are small and easily tolerable.
5- This is a very rare game that has beautiful graphics, absolute replay value, and usually was a big budget video game usually made by Nintendo or Sony. Players should buy this game no matter what their genre. A++++Read full review
