This is a great product. It's very easy to use, the manual is a little thick and confusing but after using it for a while, it's very simple. The TV guide feature took several days to load itself, I thought for a while that I wasn't going to get that feature but after Two or three days, it searched out and found the feature. I love this thing !!! You don't need TIVO if you purshase this product, I would recommend it to anyone even those that are technically challenged. To record TV programs either now or in the future you just scroll through the TV guide, find your program, push the record button. The unit doesn't need to be powered on, it does it on its own.
This deck is an essential component of my video production. I now have three of them. Too bad Panasonic does not still make this deck. I have seen these decks sell on eBay for $900. Over three times their retail price. I have received good out-of-warranty repair service from Panasonic. The biggest problem that I have for this deck is the DVD burner. They don't seem to last very long. They sound like a sick cow, when they go bad. The Panasonic engineers who designed some of the features needed some user focus group assistance. The memory for a phrase is far shorter than the possible phase length. I have to save phrases in segments and splice together. Oh, well. Of course the internal TV tuner is analog, which in the digital TV world, makes them less than fully useful as was intended. My work flow is to copy video the the deck's internal hard drive, trim and label the segment, and then use high speed copy (3 min or less) to make a DVD. Neat feature.Read full review
It has the "one stop shop" of having a VHS, DVD and hard drive in one unit. No need to "stackem, packem and rackmt". Interaction, such as setting the timer is enhanced, allowing the different drives to work together,as well as recording from drive to drive. The HDMI upconversion improves picture quality a significant amount until the full HDMI was available. Overall a great value, which explains the high resale value, which includes used and nonworking units. Nice.

Hard to use but good quality..I recommend using a line isolation transforner to keep the power supply, and logic from failing. Otherwise it's an essential item for my business.. the settings are a secret trick that I've learned to use the silent high speed disc burning mode and only use non glossy (,matte,,,) Titan or equal discs . Never use dual layer. Unplugging it when not in use is essential to its Otherwise short life

Perfect recording device, but no longer manufactured. What a shame!!! I bought it as a replacement for one that I already own. The DVD drive died on my old unit. Very happy to find a replacement!
I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE OF NEW HDMI SISTEM,I LIKE IT BECAUSE IS A COMPLETE SISTEM VCR/DVD RECORDER.NOTHING I DISLIKE OF THIS RECORDER,JUST WONDERFUL
