After a teenage grandson broke wooden handles out of all three of our hatchets (on a working farm) during a summer visit, rather than totally eliminate his enjoyment of an outdoor activity, we decided to look for an alternative tool. These throwing hatchets are just the ticket. When he visits he can throw these at targets and stumps to his hearts content, and we don't have to worry about him breaking any more tools we use around the farm. They are just the right weight, well balanced, and the cord wrapped handle makes them easy to hold and throw. They fit securely into the protective sleeve for storage or transport. The honing and edge on them at arrival is plenty sharp for target throwing, and they appear to be easy to sharpen, although we haven't had to do so yet. He thoroughly enjoyed them at Christmas, and since they will stay here, all the grandchildren can utilize them, if they wish, when they visit. This was one of my best investments of the year.Read full review

Love these; however the string on the handle comes apart easily and has started to fray on the sides.

These SOG Hawks are all steel with a paracord winding on the handle. Steel means durable, right? Well in my second practice one of my hawks chipped the top corner of the axe side, so they are, in my opinion, too hard and brittle. But, the value cannot be beat. I also think the edges of the handle should be rounded - the very bottom on mine felt sharp and I stoned it to smooth the edge. These are good for learning basics. I'm not a big guy, but I thought they are a bit light in weight. Two no-brand, old hatchets that I have seem to throw better and are more forgiving, but I can practice longer with the SOG because they are so much lighter. To buy or not to buy? They are inexpensive (good) a bit light in weight (dubious), and not durable enough for a beginner (not good). But, as I said, for practice and learning, the cost makes them a good deal. I bought them and would recommend you do to.Read full review

Last year I purchased a couple of sets of these for my sons-in-law and recently we had a friendly family competition where I learned that everyone likes throwing Tomahawks. Well, I then had to own some of my own and I love these as they are very well made and very well balanced. The only thing you have to remember is that as you get good with these, you need to not try to group them so tight as they will slice the paracord wrapped handles. You can't beat the value. Basically, this set costs about what I thought I would pay for each Tomahawk.

I went out and threw them and thought I got exactly what I paid for. would throw all three and go get them, and one time the axe i was throwing hit the handle of one the axes already in the target, and the edge curled slightly, but nothing egregious. they are what I thought they were. happy customer.

I got these Tomahawks for the scouts. I was going to be teaching Knife and Tomahawk throwing to the older scouts, something different for a change. They were a great price and I don't have to worry about breaking a handle off and going to have to find one to replace it. I have now for sets and I think the scouts will enjoy having fun throwing them and the knives.
