Greatest Heavyweights lets you step into the ring as one of eight famous boxers to prove who was the best of all time: Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield, Jack Dempsey, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano and Floyd Patterson. In this sequel to Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing, players can choose between Exhibition, Tournament (choose a boxer and face each of the seven other heavyweights in a round robin format) or Career, where you'll be able to create your own boxer and begin fighting ranked 30th in the world. As you challenge your way through the ranks, you'll have to stave off would-be contenders as well as early retirement from losing too many bouts.
Boxers can be customized in the following areas: name, head shape, body type, hair color and trunks. In addition, there are three slider bars you can adjust to emphasize power, speed or stamina, but these areas can also be improved through training after every fight. A traditional horizontal perspective lets you view both 2D boxers slugging it out from the waist up. Separate damage meters for the head and body will let you know how much punishment you're dealing (or taking), and a radar at the top of the screen will show each fighter's location in the ring at all times. Options include adjustable rounds, instant replay and a shrine for those who beat all eight of the "Greatest Heavyweights." This 16-Meg cartridge includes battery backup to save records, cash earnings and created boxers.
Create your own character! Go through opponents! I’ve never been a fan of sports games on Genesis but this is hands down not only one of the best sports games but best games on Genesis of all time. Definitely buy!
I had E. holyfield's Real Deal boxing as a kid, my first game for the genesis actually. Like many kids and teens in the 90's I'm assuming, I thought holyfield was awesome. I was going to get his game but saw this, the sequel. The gameplay is great for 16 bit boxing and makes sense. The later fights are brutal and you will have to eat many punches, just like the great boxing matches we had in the 90's, many of them thanks to the REAL DEAL HOOOLYFIELD.
