This Magnum Tanto II "Taiwan VG-10 Steel" made knife is every bit as good as the previous Japan VG-1 steel made version. I have both of them... The fit and finish is the same, they both feel the same, and they both take the same beating. The only slight differences in the looks of the two versions is... This new VG-10 version has a shorter ricasso on the blade which gives you a little more blade edge... and the tanto tip has more of a modern aggressive angle. I personally like both of those changes a bit more on the new one. I also like the new Kray-Ex ABS sheath more then the leather sheath that came with previous VG-1 model. All of the Cold Steel Magnums are amazing knives. I have all of them and it doesn't matter what version you get... All stellar knives!!!

the construction of these knives moved from Japan to Taiwan but i don't notice any difference in quality i think this is amazing quality for an off the shelf Tanto Knife in a modern style .razor sharp beautifully finished and has a much improved sheath that locks the blade in quite securely . this one is a gift for my son so i will be purchasing one for myself and probably several other Cold Steel products in the martial arts dep.
