a beautiful album full of surprises and melodic prouesse. though they are often labelled as shoegazers, Mew are more glam in the atmospheric music than indie, more pop than rock, then yet they manage to destabilize the listeners by changing the rhythms at any point, chords are distorted to the point of no return and the result is mindblowing. Mew's also using the old trick of putting together rather dark lyrics with light, pop tunes, and yet they succeed because of this off-beat tempo trademark of theirs. the singer's high pitch voice could be irritating but their musical versatility keeps them at bay of total boredom and predictability. Nice one!
