Pictures are great, but the writing is sub-par. For example, the author frequently uses flowery language such as "soon after" or "within a few years" instead of giving actual dates, where this information would be helpful. A lot of things are repeated throughout with only subtle variation. Finally, the author describes many various items/artworks without providing a picture of them, which is very frustrating, as I cannot learn from my imagination.
