Hone your sword-wielding skills as a cyborg in Super Nintendo’s Run Saber. The year is 2998, and Dr. Bruford is on an evil quest for world domination. The Run Sabers, cybernetically advanced humans with the power to level cities, must save the planet. Allen the Thunder Saber's sword creates waves of energy and Sheena the Ice Saber's sword throws a blizzard at the mad doctor's forces. You'll fight minor bosses and one final boss at the end of each of the five levels. Defeat Fiery Kurtz and the other enemies with slash attacks and mid-air kicks, then use the Hyper Bomb to save the earth.
Run Saber tries to emulate the gameplay of Strider, only adding a few more moves and some more flexible controls. Basically, you go through stages hacking and slashing with your sword, and you can hang on to walls, slide, and dash as well. 2 features not in strider are the ability to dash and use a super move.
Overall, Run Saber emulates the Strider feel quite well. The only shortcomings are that the game is not quite as exciting as Mr. Hiryu's journey. Even on hard mode, the game is pretty easy, and your super moves are a bit abusable in tight situations. But all things said, this game is very well done, and perhaps the next best thing to try if you've already played Strider. A very respectable, well-designed game.
