I bought it because we are going on an architectual tour of Chicago related to THE DEVIL AND THE WHITE CITY. My husband had not read the book, so I thought he might enjoy this one before our tour. The descriptions were laboriously long. The murderer was the most interesting character, although a stereotypically seriel killer without a conscience. We loved the tours we have taken in the past of Chicago Architecture. This book was too long and too long winded.
This audio book is so compelling that I didn't want to stop listening to it. I've listened to it four times and every time I hear it, I learn something new. The grandeur combined with the murder during the fair makes for a very interesting plot. There's so many American historical characters that it ties together the story very well. Names such as Teddy Roosevelt, George Pullman, Frederick Law Olmsted and more. Good book!

If you like history and are aware of some of the giants in American architecture this book has it all. Interwoven in the building of the Columbian Exposition, in Chicago, in 1893 is the story of one of the worst mass murders in this country. The author keeps the suspense going with every page, the deadlines that had to be met with the buildings, the murder's tortuous ways with his victim's and the politic's involved with the project. There is only one building remaining, but that was the way it was planned the structures were only tempory.
The CDs were very enjoyable to listen to. They were educational as far as learning all about the Chicago's World Fair of 1893 and also hearing the horrible facts about the serial killer that was there at the same time. I brought the CDs as we were going on a "The Devil in the White City Tour" in Chicago. The CDs brought to life the tour and we could certainly visualize all of what the places we had heard about.
Great store in all categories I will buy from this store again

I heard it was being made into a movie so I bought it. I can't say I enjoyed it that much. Personal preference however. I've listened to worse.
