25 to Life is an okay game. I bought it for the PS2, so I can't comment about the Xbox version. It has been compared to SOCOM, which I guess is valid. Both are online shooters, squad (team/gang) based and "realistic". It can't really compare, because it's like SOCOM-LITE (VERY Lite!!!). If SOCOM frustrates you because you always get PWND (owned), you might like this game better. The single player is lacking, but online is kind of fun. I usually play online FPS games such as SOCOM(1,2&3), Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, KILLZONE, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six-3 (GUTTER-BOY on all of those, Vic_Mackey of the Strike Team Clan on 25 to Life, look me up). If you like those games online, you MIGHT like this. CONS: The graphics aren't very good. It looks like a PS2 game from 2001/2002, the characters run like they have butt plugs in and the weapon aiming is a little "loose". DO NOT buy this for younger kids! There is a lot of swearing and racist lyrics in the music and in the game. Also, there is a significant amount of blood and dismemberment when you blow someone apart with a shotgun or grenade. There is no prone and the "squat" feature looks like you're filling your Pampers. The maps are kind of small, too. And with only 16 players online, it's not up to current standards of 24 to 32 online. PRO: The idea of Cops Vs. Bangers in an urban enviroment is a good one. The ability to blow someone's head off or to catch them on fire with a flashbang grenade is cool (blood and gore can be toggled off/on). Also, you can customize your character pretty decently; color of skin & hair, clothes, weapons, custom graffiti "tag", etc... Are you listening to this, other video game developers? The only problem is that this can make it hard to I.D. friend from foe (tip: cops have blue names over their head, crooks have red or you can't see their names at all). The weapons are fun and you can spray paint your "tag" anywhere you want, even on someone's dead body! Plus, when someone dies, their equipment stays, so you can run over and use their guns if you want. Summary: (3-3/4 out of 5). If SOCOM is too hard for you, or if you're just sick of military shooters, give this a chance. Again, this is only being recommended because of the online play. The single player is a 2 out 5, while the online is a 3 3/4 out of 5. If you can live with its limitations and you play online, you should have some fun. Here's hoping they take this game and ideas, update them to current standards, and then release a better version of 25 to Life next time around. This game could have been so much more.Read full review
The only thing this game was true too when it promised what it’d be is it’s titled ’25 to Life’, as that’s exactly what it feels like when you turn it on and realize what a horrible mess it is. This game is like being in prison, as harsh as that sounds, it’s really that bad. 25 to Life was a very over-hyped game that promised to be the next G.T.A and amazing First Shooter, Cops versus Robber, style game. However, it failed miserably, with a very basic and glitch campaign style intro all the way up until it’s multi player – in which shows some promise for being one of the first to lead the way, but, it can easily be seen that it was a major ‘testing phase’ rather than a game with experience. The game starts out strong with its intro-screen and when you see you get to actually create your person to look like what you want (you can later unlock attire to add to it) it’s almost enough to get you hyped up. However, when the actual game begins, you pretty much lose all interest within the first few seconds. I actually laughed out loud when I seen how badly it was. It’s sad because the game had a lot of potential, sadder is that it was released 1-year late yet it looks like it’d be released way too early, and is basically just a test of an unfinished product that tried to lead the way but failed miserably. I bought this game for $3.50 at a used video game store and I begged my friends (due to what I thought would be an amazing game) to buy copies too. When we all got home and got on Multiplayer, I felt like I owed them the money back they wasted on the game… that’s how bad it was… we played 2-3x and never turned this game on again. I usually spend $3.50 as careless as can be, its only $3 right? But I still felt ripped with this game! If it’s not worth $3 and you’ll feel guilty for spending it, it’s sure as heck not worth your time. I actually still have this game setting with my stack of old PS2 games I never play anymore and a few times it dawned on me that I might put it on E-bay and sale it. However, I actually felt guilty, for even thinking that I would con some poor sucker into buying a great first person shooter cops and robbers game that is actually the worst game I ever played in the history of ANY games. DO NOT buy this game, read the reviews on websites like IGN, and take a look around. I seen the bad reviews but it just looked so tempting that I ignored them and bought it anyhow – I should have listened!Read full review
Best 3rd person shooter i’ve ever played. If it were free roam; i’d say it crushed San Andreas!!! Still does even being a platformer!!! Great game

I waited for this game since spring of 2005. I am signed up with a game/mailer program and received this game after it released. I played it for one day, sent it back and rated it 1. On my game/mailer website it have been reviled by over 300 people and it is at a 3.5 out of 10. The graphics are nothing to be proud of, play station one quality. There is no plot, no real story line. NO CHALLANGE TO THE GAME!! you can die as much as you want and still complete the mission, no rewards or extras unless you play online, it gives you missions to do, but if you don't do them, you still go on to the next level. What is the point of a game where you can just walk through the whole thing and get to the next level. Low weapon choices, unlike the ads where the blab about the weapons and the choices. No environment interaction but a few windows you can shoot. Seems to me the reason it came out a year late was because within that year, that’s when they made the entire game. Check game sites, pro reviews, you won't find a 10 anywhere, maybe a five. This game really upset me for how much i was let down. This is the 12th review i have done on this game trying to let everyone know how poorly this was put together and to just save your money. Even though i hated this game, i had it 80% in one day then when i woke up, sent it back. If you really want to find out for yourself, please find a friend with the game or at least rent it because soon, you won't be able to resell it for near as much as everyone will no longer want to play. Thing game built such a rep for itself and so many people are going to waste money on this game because it took forever to release. The other reviewer said target and Wal-Mart are going to ban it, and its going to stop selling soon? WHY? contra for Nintendo is more violent than this game. If you want a more exciting game i would pick up Brittney Spears dance party rather than this game. Oh and please, if you have any question about this game, i stand behind my reviews. Message my eBay ID name and i will really tell you about this sad game.Read full review

This game is hilarious!!! Every "ghetto" stereotype is employed (or unemployed) in this shooter. prisons, apartment complexes, tijuana, drug deals, gang crap, ebonics (spelling?), hood rats.... AND I LOVED IT!!! i should say though i expected a lot more from a game called "25 to life". like a SIMS game but in prison. or like "indigo prophecy" by atari but set in prison. my initial sadness about the difference between expectation and reality quickly faded to black as i played this shooter. highly recommended for ghetto superstars.
Classic game works perfectly thank you so much!!!

25 to Life is the game the streets have been waiting for. Play as either cops or gangsters, in this urban action third person shooter. The game delivers intense Online gameplay for up to 16 players, as well as a rich single player experience. Set in the heart of today’s cities, experience the gritty lifestyles of police task forces or as a gangster survive the local neighborhood thugs while fighting your way up the ranks. Bust out of prison, or infiltrate the inner sanctum of the drug lord’s mansion, your knowledge of the streets will be put to the test because… 25 to Life IS the streets!
Probably the worst game I have ever played. We're talking Super Nintendo graphics, IF that...horrible, horrible soundtrack that plays the same terrible 3 songs OVER and OVER...thankfully SHORT, average gamer will be able to wrap it up in under 3 hours, and will be THANKFUL when it ends...the PS2 version of a root canal....think of the worst video game you've EVER played, multiply it by about 100, and you'll have an idea of how bad this game sucks...seriously, the only people who could POSSIBLY enjoy this game are 11-14 year olds that aren't supposed to be playing a mature-rated game....if you're old enough to buy this game, you're WAY too old to enjoy it.
