  • A Fine Rendition of a Fine Work by a lesser Strauss!

This set of Work by R Strauss is not what I would call "Easy Listening" because it tries to be what it is called, namely a Metamorphoses, Death and Transfiguration. The first part is. I sometimes feel, is a rather tedious and complex intro to the second piece which is surprisingly uplifting! The change from one state to the other is not without surprises and the music will make you start, at least once during its process. The first piece is also a bit modulated in spots. The ratio of "volume/overall vs True and non-affected" mix department is a bit skewed in my opinion. This is done, by some over-zealous producer no doubt - it is not enough to become annoying but is definitely there. I am glad this zealousness did not carry over to part two - which for me is sonically, the better piece (for my ears at least) of the two. The arrangement of the second piece is superb for me as well. I am not a musician per-se but I do have a somewhat trained ear. This CD is worth the price of ownership.
