L. Roberts & Co. -- a Chicago-based wholesale manufacturer of architectural woodwork -- issued a catalog of its millwork products in 1903, the firm boasted that the publication included "more novel and useful features ... than any sash and door catalogue yet published," and that it was a book designed to satisfy "critical buyers who demand stylish and tasteful goods." • Good resource for info on Victorian home architecture

This book is a reprint of a catalog from 1903 where you could mail order elaborately carved woodwork for your home. It provides detailed drawings of the popular styles of architectural woodwork of the period, as well as providing insight into the effects of the Industrial Revolution on the homebuilding industry in 1900. The cost of having a home with elaborately carved woodwork was reduced to the point where most people could afford it. It is a fascinating read for anyone interested in old homes and Victorian architecture. Warning - the prices listed (circa 1903) will make you cry!!
