Rajshri Productions put their old wine from "Nadiya ke paar" in new bottle in this family drama. Sooraj Barjatya directs his second movie after successful debut in "Maine Pyar Kiya"; and who knew this old wine would break records at the box office? The story is old-fashioned; but treatment is refreshing in parts. Some songs also stand out, esp. "pehla pehla pyaar hai". Madhuri Dixit, Bollywood's then reigning queen, hogs the stage, but director seems to have made tremendous effort to extract some magical moments from Salman Khan too. And casting of Mohnish Behl in that particular role will surprize you. But movie suffers from overdose of family drama. Perhaps director forgot 3 is a crowd - in most of the scenes you see 4 or more people on screen. And there is an overdose of songs too, which at times become even more unbearable by the great Lataji's now tired voice. Madhuri's wardrobe here will shock you - I wonder why she would not refuse to wear certain colors. And director takes love of animals to further heights - or should I say depths - after "Maine Pyaar Kiya". Movie could certainly have benefitted from shorter length. But then I watched it from second row of a crowded hall, so my opinion of length of the movie is going to be biased !Read full review
